I feel like the Muzzin trade is a great comp and yet you're right, always too much (nylander) or too little (spare parts). Would the Ducks do Johnsson + Liljegren?

When you need to move salary make anything work you have to overpay. You can't make the deal work only moving 3.5 mil. I think you may also undervalue big Max Jones- has potential as a big power forward.

100% it is, but TOR fans don't think so, even though Manson fits what they need almost perfectly. It doesnt take a genius to see he isnt the same player but he is still a 2nd pair shutdown guy.

The Ducks already have too many LWs so they would be more interested in Kap than AJ. Manson doesnt go to the Leafs if Liljegren isnt coming back. both teams need RD, it isnt a good trade fit, the Leafs shouldnt move Lily but the Ducks shouldnt move Manson to TOR if he isnt coming back

I'm not over undervaluing Jones, he wont become anything more than a second liner at best/ The Leafs arent going to have to take less value to move Willy, to move Marner they will but Teams could find a way to fit Willy in alot easier

Muzzin is far superior to Manson. Could see a similar structure deal, but value wise, it isn't there.

Yeah Muzzin is the better player. Manson would be a great fit with Rielly though, definitely a trade I think both sides should be pursuing.

Agreed Muzzin is the better Dman - but Ana (specifically Bob Murray) value Manson very highly, it would take an overpay to grab him - probably Kappy & Liljegren like Salzy mentions.

So don't trade for him then lol. No reason for a team to overpay (Kapanen + Liljegren is a significant overpay - more value than they gave up for Muzzin, imo) for anybody because their current team overvalues them. There are other options.

Actually-good, proven, young d-men are pretty hard to find out there. Without any examples of who you're targeting it looks like fantasy. Rasmus Andersson? Ekblad? Marino? Jones? Doubt any team is trading a guy like that. Besides, the Leafs just have to find the right combinations with Rielly and Muzzin to have a solid top 4. Doesn't have to be a big producer or a core piece. Just needs to be better than Hainsey or Ceci or Holl.

Yeah, personally I figured that out 2+ years ago, but the fanbase as a whole seems fixated on Parayko, Pesce, Manson and will be until a decent Top 4 RHD is acquired.

Yep. And I like Manson, but I wouldn't overpay for him. A guy I really like is Weegar from Florida and I think there could be a deal there. Kapanen could go the other way - Fla is losing two of their top four fwd's and Kapanen is a salary under cap player, which could help them with their money concerns. And while Florida isn't exactly a strong defensive team either, they already have 4 guys pretty well locked in (Ekblad - $7.5, Yandle - $6.35 NMC, Stralman - $5.5 MNTC, Matheson - $4.875). If they could nab him I think he'd be a great partner for Rielly.

Agreed. Weegar is my top choice among attainable targets (as far as what Leafs would be willing to give up).

FLA will be a total wildcard this off-season, and in-division deals are sometimes a no-go, so not allowing myself to get hopes too high.
