Max Domi

Created by: Shanesaw9
Team: 2020-21 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 21, 2020
Published: Aug. 21, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Jets have spent a lot of assets trying to acquire a 2nd Line C over the past few years, and they have nothing to show for it.

A 2018 1st round pick for Statsny, and then Armia and picks in a failed attempt to make room for Statsny.

A 2019 1st round pick and Lemieux for Hayes, who the Jets were also unable to sign.

After Scheifele was hurt its clear more than ever that the Jets need to solve this issue. Looking at top 6 C's across the league, Domi is an interesting option. He is an RFA, so the Jets can lock him up long term and finally solve their issue of 2nd line C.

The emergence of Suzuki and Kotkaniemi has pushed Domi out of a top 6 C role in MTL, just one year from his 72 pt season. In playoffs Domi has played a 4th line role (with some bad players) or wing, and it's clear Domi is more valuable as a center. I think MTL will be looking to move on from Domi since they have many important players to sign coming up.

For MTL they get Lowry, (I know Jets fans like him) to play 4th line C. Julien would love a 6'5" C who is good on faceoffs, and a big guy who can stick up for his teammates was really needed in their series with Philly.

They get Vesalainen, a former late 1st round pick with some potential upside as a big scoring winger. Could be an Armia 2.0.

Also added a 2nd round pick to even out the value.

Thoughts?

Fun fact: Domi was actually born in WPG when Tie was playing with the Jets.

I think Domi would be a great player with wingers like Ehlers and Laine. Much better wingers than he ever had in MTL.

I'm not a Jets fan, they need to target defenseman and depth players in free agency. All I did was finish their top 6.

I'm a habs fan btw. They don't need a C but no one would turn down a 6'5" 4th line C who has a faceoff % of 55.

There's no chance WPG moves on from Laine or Connor.

I had a tough time evaluating Vesalainen's value. I originally wanted the pick to be a 2021 1st with the condition of if WPG misses playoffs the pock becomes a 2nd, (so drafting anywhere between 17th to 49th).

The idea of adding Vesalainen and another pick is to replace picks lost in another move (offersheet!).

Domi isn’t the answer at C, he’s winger no matter how much he insists he isn’t and the only 2 times he’s scored more than 50pts he had significantly higher shooting percentages than any other time in his career. But that’s just my opinion.

Take out Vesalainen from the Jets and McNiven from Montreal and the value is fair. Then it would come down to Domi's contract demands. If they we're reasonable, I could see the Jets do this.

well this is encouraging, what if the 2nd round pick was bumped up to a 1st round pick with the condition of becoming a 2nd if the Jets miss playoffs? So picking anywhere between 17th to 49th?

he's not a winger... trust me. He doesn't skate unless he is a center.

Habs don't make the trade unless Vesalainen is in it. They aren't moving domi for a 4th liner and a 2nd round pick.

Domi IS the add-on in a trade for Laine or Connor. No chance the Jets consider Domi as the main piece.

Then either Lowry or the second would have to come out, I would think.

I don't follow the jets closely tbh. But I think putting Lowry in helps the jets move some money which would allow them to spend on the backend? And MTL probably doesn't add Mcniven in the trade but rather a D-man + Domi for Vesalainen + lowry( or maybe a cap dump?) + pick.

Okay cool, but it would be either Suzuki or Kotkaniemi and adding from there.

It would probably be better if the Jets kept Lowry. They need to hold onto centers.

He's ****, he can go play somewhere else and drag down another teams bottom 6, can sign 4C's for a million or less to do the same thing that plug does.

There's no chance MTL moves either one of those guys for someone other then a young centre. Thats why I think vesalainen works better, if there is to be a deal between the two of them.
