Johnsson>Mikheyev, moore and engvall
Kerfoot>zacha
Kapanen>dube... for now, that’s why calgary declines

For Roy, it’s hard to say. You would need to impress them. I would move Kapanen for Roy but they may want more.

I agree Johnsson is better but how do you make cap available to improve the D if your not willing to do something like this.

My hope with this new 3rd line was to be more gritty and more responsible defensively.

I feel Kapanen-value is a 2nd rounder, which is the main piece back to Kings for Roy.

I have Hyman + Johnsson + Dermott <> Kempe + Roy + 2nd 2020 ..and 2021 2nd stays after re-signing Clifford ( tho i lowballed the guy and signed him for 1M )

My thing with Clifford is I'm not interested in giving the better pick.
Buck stops there for me, only way I'd bring him back is on PTO which is not realistic.

And trading Dermott is big no for me, like non starter.

I would keep Hyman. I can’t see him pricing himself off this team.

Dermott should probably go in a Roy trade. We just wouldn’t have room for him. He needs a bigger role. He was our best defender in the play in that wasn’t muzzin.

Hyman is in last year and thats why im shipping him out from last summer on, he could bring some quality D as return ( tho i was saying same about Kadri, didnt played out well in D upgrade terms ) His next contraxt will be 5 x 5M and stretching into his 34y.

Agreed about Dermott being only proper D beside Muzzin but hes another 2M defender so ditching both Holl and Dermott and deploying Sandin + Roy on 3rd saves you 2,3M. Thats on what i based my thread ( didnt post, cant find any joy anymore in fighting homers about moves based on Moneyballing )

So leafs trade for Roy

Rielly-Roy
Muzzin-Dermott
Sandin-Holl

Maybe Holl could be included either the Roy trade or a seperate move.

Lehtonen will be looking for ice time and I truly think liljegren is ready as well.

You do make some heartless agm’s lol. I think that is a discussion that management has with Hyman. As far as a return, he is a support player, the best in the league I would argue. But he doesn’t bring you much on a rental. Maybe a 3rd at best. I doubt any team offers him 5x5m, especially the leafs. If he wants 3m x 8 I have no issues keeping him for the rest of his career.

What if Dermott signs his QO? Do you move him? Also Roy is a top 4 guy.

One other point... defence had nothing to do with why we didn’t advance this year.

Well cap is set for 81.5 for the next 2 seasons and 82.5 million after that.

I dont see how 6.5 million will fit in this team.
Would love to see your image of this.

Ummmm, the cap is only set one year at a time. The 20/21 season is set at 81.5m.

Petro doesn’t offer a lot of defence, kapanen’s value is a first. He is a first round pick and has developed into a full time nhler, and very productive for a third line winger actually very productive for a 2nd line winger.

I think you move Holl and Kapanen bring in Roy and Cernak

I will check the cap on that.

well, if he would he can stay without doubt, i like the kid, dont get me wrong, just hes 3rd Liner with borderline to be No4 D, so 2M isnt doable if you have 800K Sandin and Liljegren standing in line for job.

I shipped out Holl to ANA, so if Dermott goes with QO, Holl can take his place in LA trade.

I shipped Kapanen and Kerfoot to CHI for Murphy and 2020 3rd with 1,5M retained.

so i lost all the depth on 3rd Line but gained everthing at D, even on depth. Its the version with Pietrangelo, thats why i decide to comment here and my Team looks like

Mikheyev - Matthews - Marner
Kempe -Tavares - Nylander
Roberts - Engvall - Barbanov
Clifford - Koivu - Spezza

Rielly - Pietrangelo
Muzzin - Murphy ( cause you know as i said many times.....give Muzzin another quality working horse and he wont look 45y after 50 Games )
Sandin - Roy ( can be Dermott - Roy if QO )

Lehtonen in pressbox

So no panic if someone from D goes down, thats why Roy is on 3rd Line, you can shuffle as much as you want.

Tbh if not for Covid, they would have hard time to enter First Round also, i think it was 14 pts to get in last 12 Games and it had all to do with D thru whole year.

Barrie and ceci combined make one full defender, have to say I am goad to see them both go.

I think Rielly and petro could be disastrous. Not sure what you signed petro for but it seems destined to be a bad contract.

Murphy is a good pick up. Why not

Rielly-Murphy
Muzzin-Roy

Roy is like a younger muzzin. They could work very well together.

Bottom pair doesn’t really matter. Leafs could probably put up 6 different bottom pairs.

I feel Flames will roll it back with keeping Gaudreau and Monahan, they need a RW and a goalie.
This fills needs.

Value wise =

Andersen = 2x 2nd rounders
Kapanen = Dube and the 3rd rounder

Maybe change 3rd to be conditional on Andersen resigning with Flames.

I'd rather have Dube than Kapanen though, and we aren't giving up 2 2nds for one year of Andersen when we can re-sign Talbot 2/3rds the price

You know what...i agree with that. It was not the D-core that had issues, it was the forwards. Mental mistakes and laxadazical effort on covering the the points.

I'd even say a willingness to block shots was quite evident. Got to have forwards willing to do these things.

Don't think the Flames would give up so much for Anderson and Kapanen, Dube is a cheap and player with upside that don't think they would give up. Kings aren't trading two inexpensive NHLers for iffy futures.
Leafs really don't have the cap to sign Pietrangelo without moving multiple players with little cap being returned. Too tough to do and I even wonder if all this RHD envy is worth for the Leafs.
