Ottawa is going to be getting a lot of phone calls this summer haha. I wonder how many bad contracts they are willing to take on. They'll have their pick of the litter that's for sure. If they're going to be the dumping ground I question if this is enough of an incentive: essentially Murray (who's already 26 and may be aging out by the time the Sens turn the corner) and a 2nd (which may not be enough).

No question you have the right trade partner, and well thought out hypothetical trade. Just comes down to what Ottawa is willing to do and spend.

There’s no doubt that it’s going to be super competitive...I’m anticipating Ottawa taking on two dumps. One with Tampa to get one of Gourde/Killorn/Johnson and one with another team to get a key piece for taking on a contract.

Tierney is worth a 2nd+3rd and including Jaros doesn’t make sense for us. Murray is fine but he has to make up for the 3rd for Tierney AND compensate for taking on Johnson’s contract when we trade him on (which we would, our crease is packed) and I just don’t think he does. Not far off but a little more is needed imo

I don't get the Hornqvist for Grabner deal at all. Pittsburgh is trading away the better player and still having to add a prospect?

Pittsburgh would have to add due to the difference in salary and contract length.

See I don't think Ottawa is going to be involved in the Tampa situation at all. All 3 of those players you named plus others have some kind of trade protection and Ottawa is pretty much bottom of the league in terms of desirability to play according to those anonymous agent and player polls. Nobody from Tampa is waiving their NTC to go to Ottawa. The only contracts Ottawa is going to be taking calls on are the ones (like Jack Johnson) where the player has zero trade protection. Kyle Turris could be another one.

I wouldn't be shocked for Melnyk to order his GM to get him to the cap floor and that's it. After you account for their RFA's (estimating) the Sens may only have to spend another $6-7 million to get to the floor.

It could get real desperate out there this offseason. Wouldn't shock me if Detroit and New Jersey are the main beneficiaries of a flat cap even though Ottawa is the best positioned to do so.

PIT needs to add to the OTT trade.

JJ is nearly 10M over 3 years, that is a 1st+
Tierney is 2nd+3rd
Jaros is a late pick.

2nds cancel out, and I wouldnt trade 3rd+1st+late pick+ for Murray.
