Trying to be realistic while shaking it up still

Description
I like MM and personally, I'd keep him. Just like we did with Flower in 17. I believe they could sign both for 8 mill or less.

But the consensus seems to be MM is the odd man out.

Lindholm is as valuable as Guentzel, Weegar is worth about the same as Petterson....

Weegar is worth way more than that. He may be a 3rd pair dman on Pitt but he's Ekblad's partner in Florida.

Lindholm was the guy I targeted bc of Calgary wanting to shake things up as well. If you trade for MM, you think he is your goalie the next 4 to 5 years and you immediately sign him.

Other people are saying MM value is at least 2 2nd rounders. Although he has dry spells, I'd argue Mccanns rights are worth at least a 2nd. He can play with speed, has some scoring touch, and is young still.

I have the value of being roughly 4 2nds for Lindholm... But that isn't the true value. I think someone pays for Murray. He has two cups. He hasn't underperformed when it counts, the playoffs, imo. He actually is at his best when the stakes are high. If Calgary wants him, i think they might sacrifice Lindholm for this package.

I have seen Weegar play and I like him. He isn't anywhere near as versatile as MP in my eyes. Scratch that trade and send the same package for any young bottom pairing D man that might look Johnson look better.

While I, unlike a lot of fans, trust JR. I don't get his obsession with JJ being "better than you think". He isn't the sole reason why the Pens lost like some fans tend to believe, he just limits the team from playing their game.

The real point with the Lindholm trade is this. Package MM if you have to trade him. Tack on McCann, Jugs, Simon. Whatever the trading team wants back. I'm assuming McCann has by far the most value. Get someone real coming back. Looking at the roster, it has to be either a very good player coming in to be 3C or a very good young Dman to play 3rd pairing RD with the potential to be 2nd pairing within a year.

Don't just dump him.

I think you’re overvaluing McCann, and Murray really hasn’t been that good since 2017 (and while he was great, he only actually played half those playoffs). His 2018 playoffs were below average, he got swept in the 2019 playoffs, and he lost to the 24th seed in 4 games this year so he technically didn’t even make the playoffs. 2 of the 3 regular seasons since then were bad. He lost his job to DeSmith for an extended stretch around the time he earned his extension, and he lost the job to Jarry this year, he was particularly horrendous. Like, Bobrovsky had a better sv% lol

You blame Murray for the Isles series or the Habs series? He played 2 really good games this year and 1 mediocre game. Nothing like Flower against Philly in 2011...and the fans all say we should have kept Flower. Haha. He has had rough patches.. But don't forget those 2 shutouts to end the series against Nashville. Don't forget him carrying the team to the playoffs last year and losing games where he only gives up 2 goals.

This team was built to win those games. At least half of them. They are 1-7. If you blame Murray enough to say those are deserving of him being moved for next to nothing. The same is certainly true of Malkin and Letang. They didn't score. They committed bad penalties. They pinched at the wrong time.

Trade Malkin for 2 2nd rounders. His cap hit is over 9 million. He has done nothing the last two playoffs....

I don't believe any of this. But the narrative around Murray isn't fair or imo, realistic.

Lindholm is the 2nd most untouchable player in Calgary behind Tkachuk, idk if I would even move him for Guentzel + Marino. Your offer is borderline insulting, there is no chance in hell he would be "sacrificed" for Matt Murray.

if you are looking for a 3C there is a good Chance Ryan is available this offseason, one of the best bottom 6 pk centers in the league. Sticking Lindholm on your 3rd line makes no sense, hes instantly the 3rd best forward on your team and should play on Crosby's right wing

It could be the case. But Rutherford will not just give Murray away... Contrary to hopeful fans. If the right deal doesn't come in, he won't trade him. Take away Lindholm and give me Murray at the same cost. We will also keep McCann and the 2nd.

I know that might be fine for you guys, as Flames fans. But people giving Murray away for nothing don't understand the game JR is playing. He is going to get the best offer for one of these guys. I will admit that they probably want to keep Jarry at this point. But if a massive offer comes in, like Lindholm coming in, Murray or Jarry, whomever. That is the guy that will go.

I love Elias, great player, plays D, can play all 3 positions in my book. Perfect guy for the Flames to keep. So I get it.

Don't get me wrong, I agree. Not sure he is better than Guentzel, who is extremely underrated but that is okay. The Pens aren't moving him. The Pens like strength up the middle. They put Kessel on a 3rd line with Bonino and Hagelin, remember? It isn't about rating Lindholm as a 3C as it is distributing scoring and overall ability of each line.

Like I said already. Lindholm is one of my favorite players out west. There is a reason why I picked him. Johnny G doesn't fit what the Pens need imo.

No disrespect to EL at all.
