I can see oilers accepting but I would rather didn’t for likely the same reasons your trading him.

The Oilers, Kings, Columbus and Arizona trades are all terrible for TO. Dermott for Roy would suffice, Dermott is both younger and has more of a track record as well as more upside I'd wager. This is all needless.

Freddy is bad and on an expiring deal, whereas Pesce is contracted and good

Most trades on here are actually pretty realistic in terms of value (if not underselling) and other team's needs. The only one that doesn't make a whole lot of sense is the CAR deal - Andersen to CAR may happen, but Pesce isn't coming back. The LAK trade is a bit weird too, but I can't really comment on their needs as I don't know LAK as well.

Freddy has played 60+ games a season in Toronto with a career .915, he had a down regular season then posted a .934 in the play-in. he's a good goalie.

I tried Dermott for Roy before and got crucified for it. I think I went a little too far the other way but I needed Holl's cap out of the way.

Because if we can get a good RHD for him and a pick its worth losing him.

I bet NSH would take Holl for a later pick

Edmonton jumps all over that. Carolina, however, is less enthused.

"Nylander vs. Pesce swap would fill needs on both team"

Per usual, Columbus declines your offer of Engvall and Kerfoot, as neither of them really gets us closer to what we need (legit top-6 scoring forwards). Also, picks are precious for us right now, since our prospect pipeline needs restocking.

Dermott and Roy are both similarly valued players. Roy is coming off an exceptional season, while Dermott is coming off only a "good" season. I would say Dermott + 3rd is probably "fair value" for Roy.

However, that trade doesn't make any sense for the Kings. They have exactly the number of RHD in the lineup they need, and an overabundance of 4/5 LHD prospects ready to make the jump to the NHL. There is no reason to make a "fair value" trade to swap these players with Toronto. Trading Roy opens up a gap in the Kings lineup at RHD.

If the Leafs want him, they'll need to overpay, or offer up an equal value trade containing something the Kings could actually use. The trade in this ACGM qualifies as an overpayment, and I think the Kings would accept it. I don't think the Leafs would ever offer it though.

He didn't have an exceptional season. He was sheltered and is now the it guy of capfriendly. He is just a mid 20's guy who had a decent season and happens to be a right handed and a defenceman which means he's worth a pile.

He did have an exceptional season. He literally won every single defensive award that the Kings gave out this year and was far and away the best statistical defenseman on a terrible team. Even the Kings coaching staff said that Roy was "probably our best defenseman." Did he have the hardest assignments? No. Did he get favorable zone starts compared to players like Doughty and Martinez? Absolutely. That being said, he still had a quality season and exceeded every expectation set for him.

I'm not saying that he's a top pairing defenseman all of a sudden. But he's certainly helped his cause and is worth Dermott+ in pure trade value. Value-wise, is he worth what a lot of the trades on CapFriendly report him to be? Absolutely not. However, Toronto isn't going to be able to acquire him for fair value, as the Kings don't have any intention of trading him. If Roy is wearing a Leafs' sweater next season, it's only because Dubas overpaid to get him.

IMO, Roy isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

The bar certainly is not high in LA these days. "That guy wasn't completely terrible, let's give him all the awards.". None of this matters, he may be a good player but so is Dermott. One of them is 23 and has more than 1 season under his belt. It isn't Roy.

Great, so Toronto can keep Dermott and the Kings will keep Roy. Problem solved.
