Creative Goalie Trade and adding a RHD

Created by: GFD1996
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 27, 2020
Published: Sep. 3, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
TRADE RATIONALE:

CAR: Makes a lot of sense for both teams. CAR has a surplus of D, require a #1G, have reported interest in Andersen. Both Hamilton and Andersen have 1 year remaining and similar contracts. A swap seems to perfectly fit both teams needs. Plus TOR throws in Holl to restore defensive depth for CAR

COL: Jost needs a new place to play. Has talent but doesn't seem to fit in Colorado. Johnsson is a nice player for COL depth and can give you 40-45 points when healthy. Dermott and Zadorov are very similar in value as well and TOR gets some toughness and size on the right side

ANA: cutting salary

VAN: Most intriguing trade. Ferland's future seems really iffy right now. Hopefully he can come in and play but there is a lot of uncertainty for VAN there given his concussion issues and injuries. If he has long term injury consequences TOR can utilize their LTIR especially with MLSE's financial power. VAN will need to move Demko to sign Markstrom or they will lose him to SEA in the expansion draft. TOR absorbs Ferland's cap hit and Vancouver add a nice player in Kerfoot (who happens to be from Burnaby, BC), a prospect who can really flourish in Bracco if given a chance, and a pick

A top RHD is worth way more trade value wise than a top goalie and Andersen isn’t rly a top goalie

Lol. That is the dumbest thing I've ever read. Thanks for the laugh

I feel like Toronto fans should have to submit these for approval before they get posted

The only trade that comes close to being fair value is Djoos for Engvall even though it makes no hockey sense for either team. The rationale? "Cutting salary."

Engvall's salary? $1.25 million.

Djoos' salary? $1 million.

Note that the contemporaneous Colorado trade ADDS roughly $500,000 to the Toronto cap.

Now that's a good one! Kudohbin, Rask, Kuemper, Allen, Merzlikins, Francouz, Helleybuck, Raanta, Bishop, Jarry, Halak, Talbot, Markstrom, Koskinen, Vasilevsky, Crawford, Grubauer, Ullmark, Blackwood, REIMER, Saros, Varlamov, Hart, Samsonov, Greiss, Binnington, Korpisalo, and Stalock all had statically better seasons then Andersen and played more then 25 games. How do you reckon he's a top 10 goalie?

So Andersen has an up and down statistical season on a team that was the very least, up and down and now we're putting Francouz and Stalock ahead of him. Go present your evaluation of the goaltender position to an NHL GM and they'll tell you how asinine that is. It's funny - people on here talk about how Leaf fans overvalue their players yet it takes the sun and the moon to acquire any defenceman if your TOR according to the ppl on here.
