Please explain who Columbus would make that trade? And no the 15th OA pick isn’t enough to make up the difference between Holl and Savard, get us to retain on Savard and move Korpisalo.... this trade honestly doesn’t do anything for Columbus next season.

My valuation was 15OA > Korpi, Holl+early third < Savard. I wouldn't pay more than Holl + 2nd + 3rd for rental Savard, and I figured the value difference is about even between Korpi and 1st, and Holl+3rd and Savard. It gets you good value for a player that might walk and another that will likely be the victim of the expansion draft.

I’m not opposed to a Savard for Holl and a 2nd add a 2nd for the retention. That being said the only way we move Korpisalo is for a top 6 center (he’d be in a package for one).

I don't hate the Montreal trade, the value is probably fairly close.

But I'd rather see Bergevin do a 1 for 1 with Domi or a Domi++ to bring back a top 6 winger and leave the defense as is.

We're not in a rebuild/retool and we don't have cap problems. We'd rather just keep Savard and Korpisalo.

Logic is that one of the goalies is going to go in the expansion draft, and it doesn't make much sense to resign Savard when you have Jones - Nutti - Peeke on the right side. Grab some assets that you can either flip or hold onto given how good this draft is, rather than inevitably losing both for nothing

I don't think it's an outrageously unconceivable offer. Given that you'll lose a goalie in expansion and it doesn't make much sense to resign Savard with Nutti and Peeke more than capable of stepping up. I think you could now turn around and draft a quality C at #15, but in my opinion just overpay a guy like Granlund a bit for a year or two while he gets his numbers up before trying to grab a big long term contract, and by then Foudy will be a 2C.

Merzlinkins is exempt from expansion.... we won’t actually lose a goalie that way.... so yeah... the only reason Columbus moves either Korpisalo or Merzlinkis is in a package for a 2nd line center. The only goalie we offer to lose is Kevleniks and he’s a back up at best.

My guess is Nuttivaara or Kukan is taken in expansion as we’d protect Jones, Werenski and Gavrikov. Murray and Savard are both UFAs and most of our better forwards are exempt.

15oa pick is worth more than Savard... let alone the downgrade.

I think the trade is missing something.

1st= korpisalo

Holl +3rd= Savard rental

Retention is probably worth a 3rd so probably Holl + 2nd

All moot if they don’t want to move korpi or Savard.

you've more or less outlined my rationale. I figured Korpi wasn't quite worth #15OA so that value would have balanced out the Holl + 3rd = Savard 50%. I'd be comfortable adding something to sweeten, unless of course, as you said, they elect to keep both players

You will still need to expose one goalie. It just won’t have to be Elvis.

The additional value is what you pay when you approach that team. I think that opens them up to the deal.

Protect: Korpi
Exempt: Elvis
Expose: Qualify offer RFA Kivlenieks

Boom, done.

Yup, I didn’t say it would be difficult. Doesn’t matter who you expose. Seattle will have plenty of goalie options.

Columbus would have no incentive to make this move. They really have no use for Holl cause he'd probably just be an extra even with Savard gone. The retention is a fat no with the RFAs we have to resign. 15 OA is nice, but it doesn't fit CBJ's needs. Even if you wanna say Holl and the 3rd cover the retention, I don't see how the 1st is worth both Korpi and Savard.
