If we had to get Laine

Description
The Habs need elite wingers. No one can deny that. There have been many options that have been discussed, and one of them was acquiring Patrik Laine, which, to be honest, I’d rather not happen. But hey, it might, and this is my best try at a trade

Additional Details:
Jets fans are always clamouring for a good, reliable 2C. Hey, we got this dude, Phil Danault. Pretty good match, especially with an extension installed. Any ideas? What are Jets fans comfortable with?

With their farm team, the Manitoba Moose, the Jets rolled with Mikhail Berdin, a rookie, as their starter and Griffen Outhouse, also a rookie, as their backup. This offseason, I’ll expect that Outhouse and newly signed Arvid Holm will play with their ECHL affiliate(assuming they have one) to make room for Lindgren to play with Berdin.

If you want Laine, I have to imagine the conversation starts with Nick Suzuki and a 1st... and it goes up from there.

I don't think there's a reasonable conversation the doesn't involve Suzuki, to be honest. Despite what Frank Servalli thinks, there doesn't seem to be any interest in the Jets actually trading Ehlers or Laine. Every reporter who is actually based in Winnipeg is saying a deal would have to absolutely blow the doors off Cheveldayoff for either of them to move.... and it won't be a 1 for 5 deal. I think if Suzuki isn't on the table, neither are Ehlers or Laine.

If you are after Laine, you're going to have to open the bank. A true 2C, top 4 dman, and 1sts. I can't see Chevy doing anything less. Not 4 quarters for a dollar but 4 50 cent for a loonie.

No chance Habs involve Suzuki or KK in any trades for sure. Jets could use Danault tho so Id build off that.

Considering Laine will want 9mil the next lot of years, and Suzuki is still on his ELC, yeah. I do think they’re close, and I wouldn't’ do them straight up.

MTL need a #1C for ages, they now have one, they won’t trade him for a guy who can just score. Laine is a Max Pacioretty but with a better shot. That’s it

It sounds like you don't. Jets fans have simply said that the Jets won't accept 4 quarters for a dollar in a trade for Laine, Ehlers or Connor.

We can understand why you don't want to give up Suzuki, but you can't fathom why the Jets won't accept some spare change for their players who are all much better than Suzuki.

Wouldn't trade Suzuki for him either. Wouldn't trade much for him TBH. I watch him a lot here in Winnipeg and he's often as much of a drawback as he is a positive. For the price he'll command, pass.

LOL sorry you have to deal with homers in the comments like this. I am a jets fan and I can tell you Laine is the finish version of Skinner at this point in his career. Personally I would take that deal but maybe replace or just drop Lingren and upgrade that pick to a 1st, just because I feel like Laine still has quite a bit of value from his potential. I hope you don't take all of us as guys who think Laine for Suzuki, KK, Romanov, Caufield, Danault, and 16 OA is a fair deal.

‘Laine’s biggest knock is he doesn't’ play with a decent center’. Well, he’s so playing on a PP with Scheifele and Wheeler and Connor, so that’s not an excuse. And ‘biggest knock’ isn’t consistency? And you’re calling ME a homer? Funny.
