Initial Creation Date: Sep. 9, 2020
Published: Sep. 10, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Obviously the Canucks would only re-sign Marky if he's willing to sign without a NMC. I gave him 5mil due to the fact it looks like Lehner is signing a 5x5 deal and hs contract should be pretty similar.

Regardless, it's a pretty good deal for Domi.

Because a bunch of habs fans are obsessed with any right winger over 6 feet tall.

Absolutely not. Virtanen isn’t the type of person the habs want to bring in, and a late first in a shallow draft isn’t enticing.

I can barely contain my enthusiasm to watch Jim Benning pay for his bizarre habit of paying bottom 6 forward $3M+ AAV for 4 plus years so canucks fans can riot when they win round 1. Every GM in the league is lining up to put him in a headlock and take his lunch money so he can sign the results of his only redeeming achievement = drafting well. These aspirational rescue trades are fun to fantasize about for those who live in the most beautiful city in North America. But, I am afraid you should go to school on what Dubas had to give the Canes to get off dead money, you literally have several of the worst bottom 6 contracts in hockey Jim. Whatchya gonna do? No amount of black paint will conceal the grey hair after Jim learns the hard way what it entails to shave salary post pandemic. I can't wait to watch...

Basically it is Domi for a 1st and Virtanen for a 2nd, but since Vancouver's 1st is too low, the 2nd going for the other way is brought down to a 3rd.

Virtanen is an interesting piece but Vancouver's first is just too low. Statistically not significative difference with a high 2nd. So I agree it is not a high return enough for Domi IMO, even if Virtanen is an interesting piece.

They're gonna have to be moved there's no doubt about it we'll probably have to trade a 1st to move Eriksson unless we can retain some salary but if we can get through this current offseason without having to move him I'd say we're in a relatively good spot cap wise

I'd be open to lowering the Montreal 3rd to a 4th if that's the holdup or just replacing the 3rd entirely with Fleury.

Nope. I get that's what you are trying to do, but the problem is the first not having enough value. Any other team offering a higher (or 2020) 1st would get Domi instead.

thanks for the balanced reply. how about sutter and beagle? and Roussel (lets face it matt martin does the same thing better and will get half the AAV this summer)?

They probably have to move one of Sutter or Beagle this offseason and Roussel next season. I personally would rather see them move Beagle considering he has two years left while Sutter only has one. As long as they can get Roussel under the cap this year moving him next offseason shouldn't be much of a problem.

Well that's what you get for having a surging team that people expect to achieve great things in the following years! Lower value draft picks is a small downside of long playoffs runs...

Maybe a high profile prospect instead? Hoglander?
