Description
Let's say the Wild played Dumba at RW some this year could they then protect him as a forward? How much does a guy have to play a position to get that positional distinction?

Hell try him at center. Maybe our 1C has been on this roster the whole time...

This was for Vegas, but probably is the same:

(Bill) Daly told ESPN.com that anyone who tries to manipulate the draft rules would face the loss of a first-round draft pick.

“There has to be a high level of diligence to make sure those things don’t happen and to make sure people know there will be significant penalties imposed if they were to screw around with the rules,” Daly said

Dumba is like Burns in a lot of ways. The ability to play forward is not one of them. He doesn't have the speed or the hands for the role. Burns in his prime would have smoked Dumba on a straight line. And Burns was slow for a RW'er to begin with, which is why he got moved to defense.

I don't see why minnesota doesn't go the 8 skaters route. protect the top four and then still protect four forward assets, not including those who are ineligible. But honestly I think trading Dumba is our best chance at getting a center so even if they could protect him I see him getting traded just so we have something to show at center next year
