It’s a good deal on paper, but when you throw in Patrick’s injury history and missed development time, a wrench gets thrown in. Ghost hasn’t been the player he used to be, and they will want higher than a 2nd, even if it’s a first solely conditional on Patrick playing a certain number of games.

I wouldn't pay that much for Laine. I can see him taking the same hard position the leafs guys did and demanding 9-10 mil. No thanks.

Jets wouldn't make that trade. Quantity doesn't equal quality. Ghost is always the first player to be offered by Flyers fans in trade rumours. Patrick is damaged goods unfortunately.

So, for Laine, you're giving up:
-Overpaid dman, that still has upside but hasn't shown it in a couple of years.
-Decent prospect that was alright in his first pro season.
-Good prospect that hasn't played in over a year, and has a pretty big question mark hanging over him.
-2nd round pick.

IMO, you've gotta give up something that you don't want to give up when you're getting a talent like Laine. Winnipeg has absolutely no reason to, and definitely shouldn't even think about trading him for question marks.

Totally agree with you there. I could see a trade between WPG & PHI going down like this : Laine + WIN's 3rd round pick (2021) to PHI / P.Myers + M.Frost + PHI's 1st round pick (2020).

It's fair value on both sides. PHI lose a guy they don't want to in Myers, which needs to happen to get a high end guy like Laine. Still, I don't think WIN does this perticular trade, considering they want a 2nd line C at least for Laine...even PHI hesitate, since they'll be in cap hell next season (2021-2022) trying to resign Hart, Laine, Sanheim, Niskanen, Laughton...

I pretty much agree. Myers, Frost and the 1st are the things we'd want so maybe it makes sense to stop there, but we could help the Flyers by also taking Ghost if the Flyers needed, but he's negative value to us given his contract and the way his play is trending. (We'd need to hope Seattle took him in the expansion draft.)

If we took Ghost we'd need something else added (Patrick?) which is then probably too much potential for the dump of Ghost so we'd need to add something.

It gets to be a massive trade but it could work for both sides if the Jets can't get a 1 for 1 type trade done.

Flyers and LAine aren't a good fit. We need a sniping winger, but a lot of cap relief trades would have to go down in order to afford him, Hart, Sanheim, G, Coots, and some depth forwards/RHD over the next 2 years. It might not fit, unless we find trades for Ghost, JVR, and Voracek. All 3 of those trades would result in the flyers losing in those trades just to get rid of contracts. Not saying it isn't a possible destination, as we have some pieces Winnipeg would like, but it may be more work than Fletcher wants to bite off.
