Trades
1.
VAN
  1. Jones, Martin ($1,900,000 retained)
Additional Details:
The Sharks want out of the Jones deal so that they can chase the current crop of FA goalies. By swapping Jones for Eriksson, they gain cap flexibility long term. Jones' NMC is also extremely restrictive but maybe he waives it to move back to his home town.
SJS
  1. Eriksson, Loui
Additional Details:
With no first or second round pick this year, the Nucks imo don't have the assets to move Eriksson's contract. Better to trade for another bad contract, one which at least fulfills a need on the team. Jones is on the decline and has way more term than Eriksson but could make a somewhat pricey veteran backup/mentor for Demko when Demko can hopefully be signed to a bridge deal. The Nucks might also need to retain some salary on Eriksson to make it work.
2.
VAN
  1. 2020 4th round pick (NSH)
ANA
  1. Beagle, Jay
  2. Stecher, Troy [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Hearing a lot of talk about moving giving up assets to move Sutter or Baertschi so that the Nucks can pursue FA's this offseason. I think it's better to move contracts with at least two years term like Beagle or Roussel to make the next offseason easier. The Nucks' window is just opening. Better to focus on resigning Pettersson, Hughes, and Demko than go all in this year.
3.
BUF
  1. Virtanen, Jake [RFA Rights]

If it's a 1-for-1 Eriksson for Jones swap without the retention, Sharks accept.

1.9 million is a lot, but I think there would have to be some retention on SJ’s side. The deal is for twice the number of years. Maybe retain $750k

I hear you. Wouldn't work from SJ's end though. Too much upside for Jones to bounce back with a long offseason of Nabby coaching him in the style he was comfortable with in his earlier good years, 5 years is too long a time to retain, and there's a chance Jones is selected by SEA so not worth it in that case IMO.

Hot take incoming: If I’m the Sharks, I actually decline this one. I know at face value things look pretty even or even in favor of SJ, but I think the bounce back potential with Jones is very possible and very likely with a reduced work load. We may as well let Jones increase in value if we trade him at some point or expose him to SEA. There’s no point in selling low for a guy we certifiably know won’t be bouncing back at any point in his career. Jones is overpaid, and has a generally bad contract, but I do genuinely believe it can be salvaged.

I thought the contract for jones was a bad idea and I“ve been right so far.

That being said I saw what looked like jones bouncing back since Boughner and Nabokov became his coaches. Nabokov learned from the great Warren Strelow, and it helped him shape his career and Nabokov is using his techniques as a coach. With jones being healthy and not playing hockey since March he will be well rested and well coached. This is a make or break year for him and I see the sharks rolling the dice on his bounce back.
