Barzal and Murray Let me have it

Description
That is max offer I’d put up for Murray, if Pit fans want more than y’all can keep him... maybe a contender will offer a late 2nd but I doubt it. I’d be just as happy signing Markstrom at $5x5 or even a Dell at $1.7

I highly doubt Barzal would sign an OS but this would be a good one for him. At 3 years, he’s getting paid over market now and he’ll be able to cash in again 3 years from now. Also, Lou Lam doesn’t buckle to players, he has his price and if you accept an offer sheet over that dollar amount then he says see ya later. 8.725 may be just enough over his price range that he doesn’t match.

All that said, Stevie won’t offer sheet anybody, it’s not his way. This is just fun to play around with.

So go on, let me have it.

People forget you can go 10% over the cap in the offseason. An offer sheet shouldn’t even be a consideration

Wings pass on perfetti
Isles match so fast, you need to offer closer to 11 for them not too.

If I'm giving up those picks, I would want the deal to be a lot more than 3 years.

Pittsburgh would declines although I agree that we shouldn’t give more for Murray. Islanders match in a second.

I don’t think any GM would offer this because it would inflate the market.

The islanders owners would lose a lot of money if they let barzal go, so even if Lou wanted to let him go, he doesn’t have the final say

Lou would easily match that offer sheet on Matt Barzal and thank Yzerman personally, Detroit's in no position to lose a 1st 2nd and 3rd round pick anyways.

FYI offer sheet compensation is based on 5 years not 3 years, Matt Barzal would never sign it anyways. Probably take Connor McDavid money for him to sign it.

It’s up to 5 years, you can still offer sheet less.

Imo, I don't see Detroit throwing offer sheets around. You're arguably giving up a top 5 pick in next year's draft for barzal.

Out of curiosity, cause I don’t follow NYI religiously, what is the market value for Polluck? I assumed a long term deal around 7/8 x $5.5/$6? Then, is Ladd for sure going LTIR?

My guess is he comes in at around 6x6, I think if we weren’t so cap strapped it could be a 7x7 deal though. I don’t know about Ladd to be honest. He played a single game these playoffs which in my mind lowers the chance of him going on LTIR but Lou has done shady things with contracts like that in the past. It could go either way with Ladd, well just have to wait and see

You are aware the Pens keeping Murray is an option right? Zero incentive to move him for that little when they could let Seattle have him next summer and not lose anyone important

True but they wont sigh it, No RFA is wasting his time on 3 years if he can get 5 or 7 years.

Maybe not on an Offersheet but I think you are more likely to see players take bridge contracts this offseason.

This should be a fun offseason, there are so many teams that have to find a way around the cap. Even with Ladd on LTIR and Burying Boychuk, NYI are barely under the cap with signing Barzal and Pullock to those contracts. And that doesn’t account for performance bonuses that I think they already owe Barzal... TB is in the same boat, somebody is going to lose a young Star this offseason...

Oh i totally agree, Due to Covid and the uncertainty i can definitely see far more bridge deals or short term deals.

Maybe, but it would be a lot smarter in my opinion for the player to take bridge deals. Like I said in my original post, $8.7 is above value for a bridge, Barzal can take a bridge at 8.7 then in 3 years sign a 8year deal at market value, which should be much greater with the raising cap. Assuming he does a 8x11, he’s looking at $10.25 over 11 years vs $9.6 over 11 if he were to sign a 8x$8.725 then a 3x$12
