Fixing Toronto

Created by: Boomer89
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 2, 2020
Published: Oct. 2, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The only way the Leafs have a hope of contending is by moving one of those 3 ridiculous contracts.. looking through each team I cant really find anyone who is contending that can make room for one of them.. Isles or Avs were the only options imo and I dont actually think this trade goes down with the flat cap situation

What a joke lol. Firstly the Leafs lose this trade in a massive way. 2nd even if they were inclined to make this trade, the Islanders can't afford the cap considering their cap situation is the 2nd worst in the league behind tampa. 3rdly, I love you call the 3 best players on the team ridiculous contracts and then give Frolik 3.5 million. You couldn't miss the mark more if you tried

Frolik at 3.5m? Tanev 5m X 4? Leafs are back to situation where they overpay for players. Isles really don't have the cap for Marner with Barzel and Pulock to sign.
I'm not against trading a big cap player....for either equal value on the ice or cap space. But if you get cap space, spend it wisely.

Well, value is way off. If you're gonna save almost $11M by trading Marner and want to spend it on others, there are better ways of doing it.

Horrible value for marner off unoriginal, uninspired and lazy analysis.

Imagine thinking having good players is a bad thing. The Islanders have over 20 million in wasted cap space for 4th line or 3rd pair players, and yet they think Marner is a problem?

I guess the username checks out.

Okay so I can see I've offended the fanboys of Toronto with this leafs team I slapped together in 45 seconds. Anyways that "wasted cap space" you mentioned.. just got the isles to the East finals, while your "good players" missed the playoffs. I have no issue with Marner as a player but his contract along with the other 2 are the reasons your team is failing. Ask the Hawks what happens when you give all your money to a couple players. There is no real solution to this team that involves keeping those 3 monster deals on the books.

Exchanging a winger for an older, less productive winger doesn't bring Toronto farther in the playoffs. Moving Nylander or Marner has to return assets in the areas they lack.

Thats a fair point.. to be honest as much as they need to move one of these contracts.. I cant see anyone out there even wanting to add that to their team.. especially with the flat cap suffocating everyone.. tough times

Neither will get moved this offseason. The benefit is that both deals were frontloaded, so teams that are looking to save on cash but want quality to reach the cap would be suitors.

So you're saying the Leaf need to dump away Mitch Marner for far below value. I know you're all hyped up and fiery right now buddy, but if that's your opinion as a hockey fan, that's really something.
