I just don't know why you need a long term LHD, it doesn't make sense. If you really think Graves is better on the 3rd pair and that Cole doesn't belong, fine, but just get a 1-2 year stopgap top4 LD because soon enough Byram will need a spot in the top 4.

Not sure why you'd tinker much with Girard-Makar-Byram-Timmins for the future

There seems to be pretty good value here, Calgary definitely thinks about it. The only thing is that from the Flames' perspective, Hanifin is (or at least should be) here to stay for a long time. When paired with Andersson in the playoffs, the two of them did pretty well. He's got a team-friendly deal and is still super young. Calgary's not rebuilding, so Timmins would have to be pretty close to NHL-ready. Is he? If so, Calgary might think about it.

I feel like that's a pretty big overpay for a one-dimensional D and, as mentioned, he is going to block the younger guys from coming in.

I'm just playing with the idea, given that Ryan Clark said that Colorado are looking for a LHD in the $4m range.

Timmins is very much NHL ready. He played a couple of games in the playoffs against Dallas for example.

In that case, I think Calgary would be very interested. It would save us some money, give us a really nice young piece moving forward, and a good pick in this year's deep draft. I guess the question is whether it's something Sakic would really want to do. Either way, interesting idea!

He played but he looked very uncomfortable in his own end. He's ready if he doesn't have to play a ton of minutes or play during high-pressure points of the game. I think his chances of making the team are 50/50 rather than 80/20 as many fans would like to believe. It's important to remember that he lost 18 months to concussion recovery which is brutal. He may be 22 but he's more like a 20 year-old in terms of development. There are stopgaps available so no need to put him in if he isn't ready.

I saw rumours of COL adding a D man but I just dont see how adding a D would help this team more than adding a forward tbh

Brodie or DeMelo make sense if they would do a year or two. Trading for a defenseman doesn't in most circumstances (imo).

    We could do both.

Calgary hangs up the phone because Sakic can't stop laughing. Timmins and 1st for Hanafin lol. Timmins for Hanafin is already unfair. Calgary would have to add a pick not Colorado. Timmins is 100% ready for the NHL and can be a 1-2 D in the near future. Yes Zads will be sold to the highest bidder. Which won't be that high at all. Good hitter but thats about it

Timmins is 22 and has room to grow, but Hanifin is 23.. he still has room to improve and is already a solid top 4 D.

I don't disagree that Timmins is NHL-ready and has top 4 upside, but being realistic he hasn't proved it yet and has also had some concussion issues which may sidetrack his career.

I'm not necessarily saying that I would trade Timmins for Hanafin, but I'm just exploring value. I really like Timmins and he fits perfectly into our long-term plans.
