Laine

Created by: Lenny7
Team: 2020-21 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 16, 2020
Published: Oct. 16, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trying to figure out how to add Laine.
For Winnipeg:
-Rakell provides them with the about $3 mil more in cap room to add an additional player.
-Thrun took a huge step last year in the NCAA, and is now likely the 2nd best D prospect that the Ducks have.
-Comtois is primed for a breakout year, and is one of the top 3-4 prospects on the Ducks
-The 1st rounder gives Winnipeg the opportunity to continue to add some youth to their team, and has the potential to be a top 10 pick.
For Anaheim:
-They add a much needed goal scoring threat on offence, who lines up long term with Zegras.

Lineup-wise, I see this as having 3 reasonably balanced lines (Steel/Zegras can be interchangeable as wing/center options), and a reasonably solid defensive 4th line.

Is this the answer for either team? Likely not-I just wanted to hear what your thoughts on the value were!

Replace Rakell with Lindholm and you've got a promising start. Jets need a TOP4 D in this exchange more than anything.

Yeah, I was half thinking that. What would you think needs to be added to Hampus? I don't think I could do very much, but maybe something like Hampus+B prospect?

Could the Jets guarantee Hampus re-signs tho? Hampus + Lundestrom seems like a fair deal if they can get an extension

That NSH trade is fine, but I don't see NSH making it. They don't need another LHD (and have quite a few in Larsson's age range) and are weaker on RHD at both the NHL and AHL level. So for that reason, I don't see them trading Allard for a LHD. Though I could see NSH trading Allard at some point as it doesn't look like he has a future in NSH.

Can they guarantee Laine re-signs? Do they need a left shot as much as a right shot?

Laine would be an RFA, he has no choice but to stay. Trading For Hampus would be like when the Sens traded for Duchene with less than 2 years left

Dunno. I've been thinking something like this

Anaheim Ducks
Patrik Laine
Kristian Vesalainen
Mathieu Perreault
Sami Niku

Winnipeg Jets
Hampus Lindholm
Danton Heinen
Isac Lundeström
David Backes
2021 1st round pick

Obviously if Lindholm declines to re-sign with the Jets in two years time, they'll be f*cked no matter what. But this way the both teams would cover some weaknesses from each other...

I'd probably do that. Good question re: signing Hampus. I think, given that they'd have first crack at extending him and could offer him 8 years. Think that's a risk they'd have to take to get him, tbh.

How tall is he btw? Last I heard about the Jets is they have a ton of D under 6’

Yeah, I was just trying to flip Larsson TBH. The Ducks RD prospect pool is much improved, so I'm not as concerned about it anymore...just too many guys (Guhle/Djoos/Curran/Mahura) that probably deserve some icetime, and not enough spots.

I'm just not sold on Niku and Vesalainen being anything more than Heinen/Lundestrom to give up a 1st in that deal. If it were a 2nd instead, I'd be fine with it.

I'd agree it's a 2nd if Backes weren't included, but there's a reason why he's there.

ANA could make it a lottery protected pick if necessary, but I do feel like Jets' ask for Laine must be sky high.

I think Vesalainen and Lundestrom have a similar ceiling at this point but one is a winger and one is a centre. As for Heinen, probably not worth much considering Donato got a 3rd and similar players like Duclair, AA, Kahun aren’t getting picked up on the open market. Niku is probably a 3rd pairing guy. As for Lindholm, tough to trade him but you guys have Fowler, Larsson, Mahura, Lacombe and many others

I mean, the Jets are also dumping Perreault here...But yeah, I'd say the asking price is likely going to be crazy.

Tbh I dare say that Perreault > Backes.

100%, and I wouldn't disagree on that for a second, my point is more that there's no real point in acquiring Perreault, and that his addition to the trade shouldn't swing a pick from a 2nd to a 1st.

I'd say that even if you dropped both Perreault and Backes from the exchange the Jets will still demand a lottery protected first rounder. They can't take the risk of Lindholm not signing, hence they need to maximize the value immediately.

With the conditional picks pending the re-signing being banned at the new CBA, Jets' hands are quite tied on this matter I'd wager.

Laine looks to be way too expensive for my taste. We shouldn’t be giving up some of our best prospects rn.

Prospects that should be off-limit: Zegras, Drysdale. I'd add Comtois to that, but if it means getting a guaranteed thing, then I'd absolutely do it. Everyone else is fair game when you're trying to improve a roster.
