Yeah it's fair in ways with a very underrated young core (Dylan Strome especially) but with the situations of the big 3 + lacking key depth elsewhere it's tactful

As much as I would love Kane, that trade would effectively gut any prospects we have or would have for a run from 23rd to Stanley Cup

Teams are able to retain salary for up to 3 contracts, I am not sure how many Chicago is retaining now

Chicago is currently retaining on both Saad and Maatta so they can only retain on 1 more contract

I could see retention on Toews but not Kane. Kane is well worth that contract Toews is a little overpaid

Kane is still playing at an ELITE level. Both him and Toews have those NMCs so that makes it even more difficult for Chicago to at least break even in a trade. I would love to see him in Buffalo but they can't afford his salary unless Skinner went the other way
