They’d just do a shorter term with a AAV of $4,363,095 and structure it to be backloaded to be more attractive since the qualifying would be high. Which is just a second rounder.

I think Cirelli would sign that - although idk if he’d want to leave Tampa for Detroit. I don’t mean to trash Detroit there either. He’d be just going from the cup champs to the bottom floor (although Detroit had a great offseason and Yzerplan)

The offer is not good for Tampa, but do they really have much of a choice? They need to do something, and the entire league knows they're absolutely screwed cap-wise.

I think the only solution they have that doesn't involve massively losing a trade is to have Sergachev and Cirelli hold out and play in Europe this year. Hope the economy improves, and the going rate for cap dumps goes down. Even then, you'd have issues with Point needing a new contract. It's not a good play for the organization, but it would at least delay potentially losing a great young player for nothing.

Who is everyone kidding!! TB will find a way to sign Cirelli and Sergachev. If they have to trade T.Johnson and Killorn and even give up a 1st and 2nd round pick in assets to get a team to take them on, they will do it if they have too!! IMO, They would trade Stamkos and get the cap room b4 they let Cirelli and Sergachev walk or trade their rights!! Is Stamkos still hurt?? If he goes on the LTIR then there’s a ton of cap room there. And cap room goes up throughout the season. According to this site, TB has 2.8M in cap space right now and 6.8M In cap space at the deadline.

I mean they can even buyout T.Johnson still!! They save 3M in cap space for the next 3 years buying out Killorn. And trade T.Johnson with a 2nd round pick attached. Plus the 2.8M in cap space they have right now. That will do it right there. I just solved it without even trading away Cirelli’s rights at a major discount.

I would not be surprised if they offer to take on a LTIR contract like Dubinsky Tampa won their cup they wont be planning to go all in at the deadline again so they dont need to worry about accruing cap space this year. However I am starting to think it will be Palat and Killorn gone this year and Johnson to Seattle next summer

It would definitely have to be an attractive offer to entice him to leave. I won’t claim to know what motivates him but possibly more compensation, GM familiarity, and being much closer to his hometown (friends/family). Completely understand the rationale of not wanting to leave but on the bright side he already has his name on the cup. Will be very interesting to see what TB does this offseason.

Since he was qualified then he can either negotiate or arbitration. If he doesn’t like Lou’s initial ask which I’m sure was low because they’re cap strapped then he’d have to either get traded, offer sheet, or arbitration. Teams with cap space are having a luxury right now which why Toews/Schmidt were shipped off for peanuts. Arbitration wouldn’t be so bad as he’d be a UFA quick.

The point is Cirelli does not have arbitration so he has much less leverage in negotiations

Enough motivation to not low ball the crap out of him because he’s one year from arbitration rights. Will he sign an OS? Maybe, but no one on this site knows what he or TB will do.
