Why would Chicago do that?
I mean the NSH trade is kinda fair but div rivals wouldn't help each other
Copp is worth more than that, he's an excellent third line guy

Ekholm would be better for WPG situation.

Ellis is the better player, but I don't think NSH is dying to help fix the jets defensive problems and I don't think the Jets are dying to help the scoring problems on NSH.

Don't think they do. Losing Ellis creates a bigger hole than Ehlers solves.

With the cap they could sign Vatanen or offer sheet Cernak/Bear which wouldn't be as good as Ellis but then the scoring would be so much better. If they could trade for a Palat or someone from Vegas for cheap then that would be a better option obviously.

You've said it yourself here - there's no reason for NSH to accept this trade. There are just too many other ways to add scoring for much less right now. About a third of the league is going to be over the cap, and there will be desperate GMs trading away forwards for pennies on the dollar. Ellis gets underrated a lot due to being overshadowed by Josi, Subban, Weber, etc throughout his time in NSH, but his loss would be huge for the Preds. None of those possible replacements you mentioned come close to what Ellis provides on the ice. Obviously the age difference is big factor in this proposal, but talent-wise NSH loses this trade.

Preds do this if you swap in Ekholm for Ellis, because we probably won’t be in the same division this year. Ehlers is a stud but Ellis is a legit top pairing D man that lets Josi take chances and lead the rush. I get it if you don’t like the value for Ekhy, but otherwise I don’t see it happening. Elite top pairing D are worth more than top 6 forwards in the NHL. And Ellis is coming off a statistically elite year. Maybe we do Ekhy and throw in one of our really good D prospects like Carrier or Farrance that is almost NHL ready.

It is funny that we desperately need offense and y’all desperately need D, but the two teams are unlikely to help each other. If there was ever a year to do it, it would be this year.

Not sure about any of these really. As much as that Debrincat deal is a win for the jets, the blackhawks don't do it. Wheeler is good, but he's only getting older, makes a lot of money and the hawks have way too many overpaid older players. Plus i think Wheeler has more value to the jets than any other franchise
Ellis for Ehlers is fair value I think, but the jets might need to add a sweetner...Ellis is as solid as they come
