Let me get this straight. In exchange for a Top-5 pick with 1C upside (likely 2C), their top line LW, and the 2nd line RW of the Kings..... You want:

1) To dump 3 years of a 7mil contract for a 32 year old, even if he can still be useful, when every team in the league knows Vegas is in a huge cap bind;
2) Put a restriction on the pick your sending the Kings way that says Vegas has to be the TOP team in the NHL at the end of a shortened season where ANYTHING could happen with regards to the pandemic;
3) and think a middle-6 prospect is enough to cover those asks.

Sorry, try again.

I understand Volkov and maybe Joseph, but why would you want Masin from Tampa?

I’m sorry but are you trying to sell Martin Frk as a bonafide second line RW? Pump the brakes a bit.

I highly doubt LA moves their recent high draft pick and I think they’d rather go through developing their own guys than trading for vets. That said Patches already shot down a trade to LA earlier in his career so this is a moot point probably.

Not at all trying to sell him as a bonafide 2RW. I think he's a decent 3RW/4RW on a deep team. He's just the Kings 2RW, because that's all they've got. That's why I specified "2nd line RW of the Kings". Regardless of where he fits in on another team, trading him creates yet another hole in the LA roster. This one just happens to be 2RW.

That’s fine, I just don’t see the skill set outside of a hard shot to keep Frk in a top 9 role on a contender. I think Detroit over drafted him based on being linemates with MacKinnon and Drouin. I don’t think the trade makes a whole lot of sense for LA but Patches isn’t a washed up cap dump considering his a top line winger that is based on reports a complete leader and professional in the locker room. I’m tired of reading comments (not from you) about how Patches is a washed up one dimensional winger when they’ve clearly haven’t watched him with Vegas.

You're mostly right about Frk. His skill set isn't top-9 overall, but I think he could carve out a PP specialist, 3rd best player on the 3rd line type role even on a playoff team. To Frk's credit , in his time with Ontario and LA he's gained a significant amount of chemistry with Gabe Vilardi, who the Kings are HEAVILY invested in. As such, he gets the spot next to Gabe for the upcoming year. He'll be a decent placeholder as players like Fagemo, Kupari, and others come up through the ranks of the Kings prospect pool. It's not like LA is trying to compete just yet anyway.

And while I agree Patches isn't "washed up" and he can be useful for a bit on a top-6 for any team, there's no doubt that any trade Vegas initiates with him is based off the need for cap space. That contract will be difficult to move, even more so in a flat-cap era. That has to be taken into account in any trade, unfortunately for Vegas. I don't think you need to look any further than the attempts to move Fleury to see a similar situation.
