Do players who are waiver eligible have to clear to be moved from the taxi squad to the lineup?

Most likely, nothing solid yet. Leafs could put dell and Boyd in as scratches. Then swap out waiver exempt players.

I'd expect to see the Leafs taxi squad be 1 lower than the maximum allowed. There's a lot of cap shenanigans to be had moving a waiver exempt player to the taxi squad on off days to maximize cap space available at the deadline.

Dell would probs be on the Taxi squad and it makes to much sense

Keefe can use him for practice and when Campbell goes in Dell can be the backup giving freddie extra rest and should Campbell struggle Dell can relieve him.

Robertson would probs go back to the OHL in Febuary as with these covid times ELCs are important and Dubas dont want to burn it nor does he not want the kid sitting and not playing

Also all reports are the taxi squad working the same way as if the player were in the AHL. That would make Robertson ineligible for it.

Would you really want your taxi squad full of young prospects? They would get NHL quality practices but basically no playing time for a full season (unless you plan to regularly rotate them in for guys who are waiver exempt and wont have cap implications). I think for the majority of them they would be better off playing big mins in the AHL or another development league.

Re-entry waivers are no longer a thing. Barring a major change to the existing CBA I dont see how they could make players pass through waivers when being called up from the Taxi squad to the NHL roster. On the other hand I would definitely expect waiver eligible players to have to clear waivers to be moved down from the NHL roster to the taxi squad

The Noah Dobson treatment

Im pretty sure that was because Dobson wasnt AHL eligible at the beginning of the season and they didnt want to send him back to the Q. But yeah similar situation I guess

I had assumed they meant to be placed on the taxi squad. After reading it again I assumed wrong.

Nope no waivers to move up. But waivers to be placed on the squad and to be moved down.

1. It isn’t an ahl roster
2. The ohl will not be playing this year

No ahl and no chl, who’s saying they won’t get regular playing time? I would rotate them in every other game.

How could he use dell n the taxi squad if he is picked up on waivers? It’s sticky.

There will be no ohl this year. If there is it won’t be till near the summer.

It’s also not up to dubas, keefe picks the team and dubas has no problem burning up elc years.

It count as an AHL roster, it might as well be. You'll have a hard time convincing the CHL it isn't.

Did you forget to tell the OHL that because they currently plan on starting games on February 4th. They are 1 step closer to playing than the NHL currently is having a starting date.

I believe those who are chosen to be on the Taxi squad will be waiver exempt for that purpose. They are still in talks but i believe thats the clause alot of teams want

That would be great but it’s not very reasonable to assume you could circumvent the waver process. they will need to clear waivers first.

How is that going for an all Canadian division? They can’t even get cleared to play hockey here.

Some arbitrary date they chose means nothing, the nhl picked dec 1st and then Jan 1st and then the 13th. Does that put them 3 steps ahead?

Ontario hasn't had an issue approving the NHL. OHL won't have problems.

Where did you hear about the AHL and CHL being cancelled? Last I heard they were still a go with an official start date pending. Anyway, I guess that works but you could risk losing some guys on waivers unless Dubas is very careful about it (which he will be tbh). By my count the only waiver exempt guys you could swap them out for are Lehtonen and Barabanov, so at most you can swap in 1 forward and 1 D at a time, or 2 D if you go 11F-7D. Itll work in theory but imo it could be difficult to evenly split up playing time, especially for the D

Yes.. they have and so has the nhl, this is 100% false.

The Ontario Hockey League hopes to begin its 2021 season in early February. MacLeod said that the league has not yet been cleared by Dr. David Williams, the province's chief medical officer of health.

Completely my opinion, although I said it matter of fact like. I can’t see any of those leagues getting started till May-June. Even then only if the vaccine has been rolled out on schedule.

Oh a good conversation? Well then for sure yet he lock down won’t apply and then will push everyone straight through the red tape. I had no idea they had a “good conversation...

Again...

“ the league has not yet been cleared by Dr. David Williams, the province's chief medical officer of health.”

I hope all 3 leagues get up and running but it certainly is a long shot for February. The nhl is a 5 billion dollar a year industry. It will be the first up and running. And maybe the others follow later on.

So all this just to change your stance and say there will probably be an OHL season? Disappointing.
