The nerve of you to think sandin gets a first round pick.

I don't know if CBJ would trade a 1st for Sandin, but I 100% support any trade that gets Sandin to any other organization.

I like the idea. Don't think the Preds would give up both of Ekholm and Ellis, but aquiring one is a very good idea.

Of course Sandin gets a first round pick. Why wouldn't he?

At this point in time a first round pick has a much higher probability of success than sandin. I would think that’s pretty obvious. That’s not even a knock on sandin, it’s just the nature of the league. How many prospects that aren’t NHL regulars have you seen traded straight up for a first round pick in the last 20 years?

Not very many. I guess I should have specified. The leafs aren't trading him. This is because he's been really all you can ask of a 29th overall pick, he's way more nhl ready than a first round pick, more valuable to the leafs than a first round pick. I understand your point. Teams just don't trade first rounders for prospects like Sandin. But that's because their team doesn't want to give them up.

It’s also because a first round pick has more value.

Yeah Sandin is a total bust. 20 year old defensemen with only 28 NHL regular season games. Total bust!

I disagree. I don’t think he’s a bust.

Who's Barber?

Anyway, lots of variations of Marner for Ellis have been discussed on here the past few months. Lots of Leafs fans decline mostly because of the age difference, and I get that. Preds fans decline them all because losing Ellis creates as many problems for NSH as Marner is expected to solve. Plus the added cap hit on Marner, and the fact that he's more of a playmaker when what the Preds need are more snipers. In this proposal it's much easier to say no to, because NSH's defense gets gutted and they add a 2nd, in exchange for Marner and some pretty low end filler. NSH gets worse, takes on more salary, and gives up a pick. Even if NSH blows up the roster, it's probably smarter to trade Ekholm and Ellis separately instead of packaging them together.
