He's earned a spot at camp, that doesn't mean he will make the team out of camp or stay on it more than enough games to burn an elc year. Mind you I havent been paying that much attention to Buffalo's camp, all I really know is how Staal as really taken charge there

Ruotsalainen has been quiet, but its only day 2. I think he still has to win his spot but i would say currently he would be slightly favored to start in the NHL

I quickly read it as Ristolainen. That would be a better idea....

Playing well in FINLAND,
does NOT
“earn” anything in the NHL

I like Ruotsalainen too....
But let’s see how the guy does in Camp before we start saying he’s “earned” anything

No point in signing Johnson or JJ. Johnson wouldn't get to play in the NCAA and he should definitely stay there for this season. JJ is going to play in the DEL for at least this season, no point in signing him now.

I get what you are saying but the truth is he wasn't just playing "well" he was destroying Liiga. He plays the game the right way that even if he isn't producing offensively, he can still impact the NHL with his faceoff ability, PK skills, and defensive responsibility. I see him making the team on either the 3rd or 4th line or being a 13th forward who sees between 10-20 games of action

Olofsson put up 43 points in 50 games in the SHL as a 22 year old. He came over and played a full year in the AHL before being called up to the Sabres.

Ruutsolainen put up 43 points in 44 games in Liiga as a 22 year old, and 27 points in 19 games as a 23 year old. Remember that Liiga is a considerably weaker league than the SHL.

I don't see any reason to think the Sabres won't follow the same path with Ruutsolainen as they did with Olofsson, unless he really blows people away at camp. Let him play a shortened season in Rochester, get used to the North American game, and prove he's ready for a roster spot next season.

He's looked good and he's an exciting prospect, but let's not get ahead of ourselves because he's looking good in a weaker league. Patience is key.

JJ is not in the DEL, unless he was recalled, he was loaned and playing in the ICEHL. Either way id rather he be in Rochester. I also stated sign Johnson when the college season finishes

I just spent 5 minutes looking at this thinking that you were misspelling Ristolainen, and I was very confused...

RIP Broadcast team if he plays in the NHL this year.

He'll be loaned to München of the DEL for the rest of this season. I believe he was only loaned to the ICEHL when the DEL was shut down due to Covid.

I’d like to see Routsalainen make the team,
it’s just not a “sure thing”
They could choose to go with NHL vets like Reider & Sheahan over a guy who’s never played in N.America
We’ll just have to see how camp goes

The scrimmage tomorrow is being broadcast on Sabres.com

He is going back to the DEL, he was loaned from EHC Munich to the ICEHL because their season had already started
