Not sure I understand the logic around this NYR trade. Are they giving Ottawa a 1st to take Deangelo/Smith? Not sure the return warrants having to do that.

NYR pick as 14% chance of being #1 overall, 39% chance of being top-3.

This is a Montreal/Toronto fan. I don't think he knows the Ottawa's players that well, so it stands to reason he doesn't understand the other teams players either.

Blues aren't giving up a first round pick for a guy who is a not very good anymore and a rental, and a defenseman who his potential isn't where it used to be.

NYR doesn't need to dump ADA. Smith is worth a 3rd rounder to dump and that's before the season started. None of our guys are on pace to hit big bonuses so we likely stay way under cap. We also don't need mediocre prospects.

So Smith and a 3rd today for future considerations would work. Adding ADA wouldn't be free. Also our 1st is untouchable unless it's Stutzle/Byfield/etc. coming back
