I just don't think I could justify paying a first round pick for a tandem goalie. Yea he has more upside but a first is steep. A 2nd rounder for a soon expiring tandem goalie is about right. Maybe add a C-ish level prospect but still.

Does Hintz still play C in Dallas? If so, that's a perfect acquisition for CBJ.

Domi is an underratedly good playmaker. Can't remember the stat exactly but either last year, the year before, or over both years, he was top 20 in either even strength assists or overall assists. Sorry I don't fully remember but the bottom line is that he is a good playmaker

A first is a little steep, I agree, but Korpisalo would be a great target for the leafs.

Before going to MTL and through his first season there Domi was among the top players for EV primary assists per 60 minutes.

That being said, from watching him at MTL I thought a lot of his passes are to guys around the front of the net, Andrew Shaw for example. Ironically Josh Anderson would have been the perfect fit for a guy like Domi.

His playmaking may or may not fit Laine's style - and it all depends if Domi feels like skating or not.

Edit: Have Domi and Jenner played together yet?

Korpisalo and a 3rd for a 1st might be more fair. But you have to consider that Columbus has all the cards in this situation - they don't need to trade Korpisalo - and the Leafs will need a starter if they move on from Andersen. Very unlikely they can acquire a goalie with Korpisalo's upside and and contract for less than a first. The free agency route is way more expensive and riskier too - there are no upcoming UFA starting goalies that I'd feel comfortable giving term to if I'm the Leafs

Columbus only holds the cards in respect to what people will pay for one of their players. They dont need to trade him and the Leafs dont need to trade for him. If no one offers a first, then they arnt getting that.
Smart teams dont over pay for unproven assets that they are going to need to rely on. Korpisalo has not proven he's a starter and the Leafs (or any other non-rebuilding team) wont over pay for a guy while also gambling on him actually being a starter.

sure, but over paying for a guy who hasnt shown he's a starter is a dumb move for a team trying to contend in the near future. The Leafs are already suffering from a lack of cheap depth because hunter drafted like ass and selling off high picks is a good way to ensure that keeps up.

He has shown he can be a starter, or at least a tandem goalie. At less than 3 mil, he's a great target. And the leafs have a good depth chart from Dubas drafting good and signing 20 players a year to league min contracts.

This would be a no deal. Hintz is one of our untouchables.
