Cheviarelli fires PoMo and Helly goes to the Berdin School of Stickhandling

Created by: jgimp69
Team: 2020-21 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 14, 2021
Published: Feb. 14, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
For gods sake play Heinola, Samberg and Stanley. They can’t be any worse than the D core we have right now!
Berdin makes the jump if only to help Helly learn how to handle **** outside of his crease.
Trades
1.
WPG
  1. 2021 4th round pick (MTL)
MTL
  1. Thompson, Nate
Additional Details:
If Nate Thompson is healthy by the TDL
2.
WPG
  1. 2021 3rd round pick (BOS)
BOS
  1. Lowry, Adam
Additional Details:
I only do this trade if Winnipeg is out of a playoff spot. Lowry goes to Boston for a legit cup run. I fully expect Lowry to re-sign in Winnipeg following the expansion draft
3.
WPG
  1. Borgström, Henrik [Reserve List]
FLA
  1. Niku, Sami
Additional Details:
Fresh start for both Niku and Borgstrom. Both were great in the AHL but we’re having a hard time taking that next step, and I think this suits what each team would be looking for. I think peg adds, just not sure what.
4.
WPG
  1. Fleury, Marc-André
  2. Korczak, Kaedan
  3. 2021 2nd round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
Fleury with zero retention (clears much needed cap)
VGK
  1. Brossoit, Laurent
  2. Stastny, Paul ($3,250,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Vegas gets Stasny retained and Croissant as a much cheaper Fleury replacement. Vegas goes for another deep playoff run.
5.
WPG
  1. Légaré, Nathan
  2. 2021 2nd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Unsure what the new leadership group plans, but if Pittsburgh plans on one more run with this group, this trade helps.
Jets get a 21’ 2nd and a b prospect forward for retaining salary on Fleury
I feel a 22’ 1st is more equal value wise (with the retention), but doubt many teams will be willing to give up their 22’ first round pick so close to rebuilding. Chose a 2nd and good prospect instead.
PIT
  1. Beaulieu, Nathan
  2. Fleury, Marc-André ($3,500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Rumor is that Pittsburgh is/was trying to get Fleury, this is part of a three way with Vegas. Pittsburgh gets their goalie with 3.5M retained and they also get BooLoo for some much needed defensive depth.

Fleury is playing like a bonafide starter at this point, so he’s not a cap dump. I don’t mind selling if we’re out of the playoffs come TDL. If we’re still in the fight we can’t sell as we need to try and win.

Cap dump or not, Vegas needs to move some and cap space is the new asset

Option A: Move Heinola and Samberg to NHL to strengthen our D crops, (while potentially hurting their development)
Option B: Leave Heinola and Samberg in the AHL, have them develop some more while sliding a year of their ELC

dunna.... kinda like plan B

Of course Maurice may chose to recall them to NHL during the season but thats only if their ready

At this point they’d move a winger like tuch or patches before their starting goalie.

Think they’re dead set on keeping Heinola and samberg with the moose, only chance they come up is for playoffs. I think they’re looking to slide their ELCs as cap space will be crucial in the next 3 years. Heinola is arguably already one of our best dman, we just have such a weird composition of guys. We have like 3 guys under 6’1, so we can’t really afford to add another small guy, but the guys we have that are bigger, are mainly bottom pairing players. Forbort being the exception. I’d like to see wpg make a trade for a top 4 RHD. If we have to slide poolman over to the left side that’s fine. I’d look at a guy like Savard from CBJ, we’d have a nice top 6 of:

Morrissey-Savard
Forbort-Pionk
Poolman-DeMelo

Heinola likely comes in as a RD next year, and slides into Savards spot.

Heinola's ELC can be slid another year but Samberg's can't, it starts this year no matter where he plays, think they just don't feel he's ready and really he hasn't played any hockey in a very long time not to mention he has yet to play a single professional hockey game not even a preseason game, so some AHL seasoning is probably necessary for Samberg.

Vegas won't give Winnipeg things to take their best player then trade him for more things.

Vegas doesn't desperately need to clear space, even if they wanted to clear some they aren't going to give away so much when there would be other options to move some cap.

Vegas certainly doesn't need 7 million in cap space this season and doesn't need Stastny. They would be giving up Korczak and a high 2nd and their best player currently all for 7 million cap space that they won't fully use.

Then they would have to go and trade more assets for a big name player to justify trading Fleury and probably not be all that improved at the end of it. The return is nowhere near cost effective.

there is no rumor anywhere about an MAF trade. But that won't stop click bait people from telling you there is because you are hell bent on wanting to believe it.
