Why does a contending team like Boston downgrade?

If they trade Debrusk it would be to upgrade LD1 or RW2. Not downgrade for spare parts and mediocre picks.

Edmonton trade makes no sense for Buffalo, they'd much rather have Pekar. Any forward prospect > defense really. Girgensons is out for the year, dont see anyone adding him

When making a trade with a contending team that doesn’t have cap issues, the trade has to make that contending team better.

Does this trade make the bruins better? No? Then no.

They didnt acquire him for his on ice production. They got him because he isnt paid much in real cash and because he is a veteran.

Dorion throws 5th round picks in for free. He doesnt think they have any value. He isnt going to admit he made a mistake trading a 2nd for Step and then immediately capitalize a loss.
