1.
SJS
  1. Addison, Calen
  2. Boldy, Matthew [Reserve List]
  3. Rask, Victor
  4. 2021 1st round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Top 10 Protected (will become a top 10 protected 2022 1st if needed to swap)
MIN
  1. Hertl, Tomas ($2,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
2020-2021 TDL - the Wild pick up a solid top line center/ top 6 forward with 2 years of retention of 4m total.

They then gain 8m in cap relief losing Rask x 2 years. That would cost around a second plus maybe a third or kinda whatever prospect so that plus hertls retention I’ve equaled out to the protected first. Than Boldy + Addison is more than a fair return for Hertl if anything it’s slightly Sharks favoured but I believe this is a big win for the Wild getting their top end center plus ridding themselves of 8m in cap (and getting Hertl for a 3m AAV is pretty damn solid).
2.
SJS
  1. Jost, Tyson
Additional Details:
Change of scenery for Jost is almost best
COL
  1. Marleau, Patrick ($350,000 retained)
  2. Nieto, Matt ($350,000 retained)
  3. 2021 4th round pick (SJS)
Additional Details:
Cup Chance for Marleau
Nieto goes back somewhere comfortable

2 bottom 6 wingers for the price of 1 (the retention) allows for a great deal in cap flexibility (yes retention this low is allowed)

I disagree this is a package for an elite player but I understand what you’re saying and I know you ain’t trashing Hertl.

To clarify I’d be perfectly fine removing the first. Making it Hertl with retention Addison Boldy and taking away Rask plus the first. The first was only their for Hertl retention and Rask 4m x2.
In my opinion Boldy and Addison for Hertl is a more then fair ask. I used the zucker trade as a template (first plus Addison) as that’s really what a he returned. Here that first is Boldy.

To clarify the ask isn’t a first + two prospects it’s the 2 prospect alone for Hertl. If my top end 20 centre returned Boldy and Addison alone that’s a pretty poor return. So I disagree this package is what a top 20 guy gets cause it’s just two prospects.

The Zucker trade really isn't a good comparable. Zucker had 3 full seasons on his deal, Hertal has 1. The cap was expected to go up a few million each year, now it's flat. Pit was in win now mode, MN isn't. MN fleeced PIT at the time of the trade.

Hertl isn't a top-20 center. He's a 2C on most teams, and a 1C on a few bad teams. It would be like MN fans say JEE (right now) is a top-20 center.

One year plus for Hertl (depending upon when the trade is made) vs multi years out of Boldy, Addison and the first-round pick.

For what is a building (if not rebuilding) team, that doesn't make sense.

Brown derailed her career with a devastating knee injury. Following season Hertl truly was not the same player we’d thought to see and it was due to the knee.

JS we did, I took Rask back

Whats the odds of a pick going back warming the Wild up too it? Or fix the first pick part of it to something else (or both?).

Personally I wouldn't be willing to give up Boldy and Addison, but those two are probably selling points for the Sharks. Addison has looked fantastic in his few NHL games, I see a possible top pairing player at his potential. Boldy is probably more of a fringe top line player, realistically a top 6 guy at his potential. I just think that's way too much for Hertl, who is only signed through 2022 and is 27 years old. For me the smart move for Guerin is just build through the draft; hope we land Kent Johnson or even better, Matt Beniers. Another team can pay big for Hertl.

No way Beniers falls into the 10-20 range (where MN will be picking). Raty might fall into that range though.

If it's not a top-10 pick I have little faith in MN's new draft guy.

I agree, but as fans we can hope. I do not want Raty, but that's coming from someone who did not like Lundell at all...

I'm indifferent to him. It was just the first center I thought of in that draft range. Beniers is a top-5 lock (guessing top-3), and Johnson is a top-10 lock.

Even as ugly as MN has been they are too good to be in the top-10 for picks this year. PIT's 1st will be in the same 10-20 boat too.

I never called Hertl a top twenty Center please read the comments I quoted in addition to what I quoted. Comparing Hertl and JEE is also funny.

And yes the zucker trade is a fine comparable as I feel both players are the same sort of value as both players are that sorta “not elite but better then good, not worth 9mil but definitely a 6-7m guy who all teams would love to have” and in addition Hertl is a Center which is a more desirable position IN ADDITION it’s a area of need for the team I selected. And again, in addition; galchenyuk was involved in the trade which I did not include a NHL player in the deal. I included rask as a cap dump which if you follow my comments I’m am fine with removing the first and additionally removing rask.

I did. That's what convinced me that this offer is a bad idea for Minnesota.

To begin with, Minnesota isn't paying Hertl $5.625 million now, so they aren't "saving" $4 million via the $2 million retention on his compensation.

Secondly, Rask is someone the WIld have no problem exposing in the expansion draft. In contrast, Hertl is someone additional that they'd have to protect, in turn exposing someone that right now, they're planning on shielding from Seattle.

Third, Hertl's contract expires right when we expect Minnesota becoming a serious competitor -- and right when we expect Boldy and Addison to arrive at the top tier of their positions. And that's not even considering the lost impact of the first-round draft pick.

No, this is poor asset management for Minnesota.
