It's a lot better than a lot of Forsberg to TOR proposals, so I'll give you props on that. But with that much retention, it's still a little low.

(Please don't include Kerfoot to "add" value. smile That doesn't help NSH.)

Three 1st rounders for 1.5m years of Forsberg seems steep, especially for position that the Leafs are rather deep.

Yea, I understand why Nashville wouldn't want Kerfoot. Preds are tanking for the best lottery selection. Kerfoot would be the second highest point getter with Nashville and their best centre.

Still think that if Preds move Forsberg, it means a rebuild, which will lead to Ekholm being moved and vice-versa, and at that point NSH would want Sandin, should they deal any of them to Toronto.

Also you want/need to keep Kerfoot and Engvall for the ExD. They need two forwards under contract for 2021-22 to be left unprotected with certain amount of games played. These forwards are Kerfoot and Engvall, unless they acquire a new one.

At any rate, the trade should imo look something like this

Toronto Maple Leafs
Filip Forsberg ($3,000,000 salary retained)
Nick Cousins

Nashville Predators
Alex Kerfoot
Rasmus Sandin
Roni Hirvonen
2021 1st round pick (TOR)

The other way to do it is by dropping Cousins and replacing Kerfoot with Holl. These are pretty much the only ways to make it work ExD-, need- and capwise.

I just can't see Forsberg getting moved with that retention without Robertson coming back the other way.

Past 3 seasons and beginning of this season:

Kerfoot: 47-77-124 in 241 games (.51 points per game)
Johansen: 43-115-158 in 237 games (.67 points per game)
Duchene: 74-105-179 in 238 games (.75 points per game)

Are they overpaid? Absolutely. No way that Kerfoot becomes Nashville's best center though. I will say they get a couple minutes more per game of TOI, but they also play for a team who hasn't had a forward play well in two seasons.

It is 2021. Johansen started his decline last season, and has been worse this season. 30 year old Duchene, now is off to slow start despite top minutes. Is he starting his decline? We'll see.
Preds can't score and can't defend.

I agree with you that they don't do much right and need a shake up. I just don't think Kerfoot adds much value. He's a good 3C, but Nashville already has more than enough players that can fill that role.

But for the Leafs or virtually any team to take on cap from Nashville in a trade, similar money has to go back to Nashville. I really don't understand these trades for Nashville to the Leafs. Leafs seem to plenty of wingers, and while adding Arvidsson or even Forsberg would nice, there certainly isn't an urgency for the Leafs to upgrade at wing
