Most surprising and disappointing teams so far

Created by: Devil

Description
This is based on my predictions from before the season. One team in each category from each division.

Central
Stars: They just made the cup finals last year and they heavily regressed. I thought they would be top 3 in the division
Panthers: I didn't expect the Panthers to be good this year but they definitely surprised me

East
Devils: This might sound biased but the Devils are the most surprising team for me. My predictions for the East were very similar to the actual standings. I thought the Devils would be a horrible team but they have been competitive in games.
Sabres: Sorry Sabres fans

North
Leafs: There isn't really a surprising team from the North but I would have to pick the Leafs. I'm surprised about how much of a lead they have over the other teams. I thought it would be a tight race.
Canucks: I thought they would be better

West
Wild: I thought they would be decent, but I didn't expect them to be in the mix with all of the other top teams
Sharks: I thought they would have a solid season and make the playoffs in their weak division but they have been disappointing so far

Really close between Chicago and Florida. I chose Florida because I had them being horrible this year. Could go either way

Devils point percentage is .421%, down from .493% last season. The east division is somewhat top-heavy, I guess it could be worse

Wait, you consider the West division as a weak one? A division with 3 of the best teams in the league (Colorado, Vegas, St. Louis) and a couple of decent teams with Minnesota and Arizona. East is the strongest division, but North and Central are definitely weaker overall IMO.

To me the Sharks were #6 in that division so not really disappointing considering their goalies, lack of depth and the aging massively overpaid core. But in that division, no team is really underwhelming. I feel like you've overrated them massively. They were really bad last year and now they got in a division that replaced Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver with Colorado, Minnesota and St. Louis. Yikes, 2 upgrades and 1 similar team

Mostly agree with your analysis. Just my take on the Leafs. Leafs were much better after Babcock was fired, Last year significant injuries to key players. So I'm not surprised they are in first place.
Keefe in his first full year and with some new coaches seem to a great group. Brodie and the surprising Bogosian far superior to departed Barrie and Ceci. And for the cap strapped Leafs getting great value from. the bottom enders....Spezza, Simmons(pre injury), Boyd and Engvall.

Devils have been very competitive in the games vs the good east teams. Covid really killed the Devils momentum

West Division is top heavy compared to the other divisions, but I would consider them a weak division compared to the others. I thought they could make the playoffs as the 4 seed. I was thinking Karlsson, Burns, Dubnyk/Jones would all have bounce back years. I didn't anticipate the Kings, Yotes, and Wild to do as good as they are doing

Leafs definitely look like a different team compared to the years they got knocked out in the first round. There are two reasons for their success this year; the new divisions and as you mentioned, the roster/coaching.

One per division. Hawks definitely are surprising though.
