there are exactly 8 players in the league that meet your criteria and 3 of them are chabot, provorov, and theodore who are going nowhere, and this wouldn’t be enough if they were. The rest are morrissey (maybe realistic in 2 years if heinola/samberg establish themselves as top 4 quality, no chance right now), hanifin (flames would need to lose every game between now and the TDL to sell for futures, not giving up hanifin while they’re in the hunt unless it’s for a top line forward), m. pettersson (apparently available according to pens ACGMs but this would be an overpay), chychrun (shouldn’t be available but this could get it done), and girard (shouldn’t be available but might be if the avs just go with toews/graves/byram on the left, and this is an appealing package).

So basically girard or chychrun maybe for this package, pettersson could probably be had for less. But there are 4 very good LD at the top of this draft (Power, Edvinsson, L. Hughes, Lambos) so you might as well just draft one of them.

I think you're not allowed to offer an extension unless they have one year left. So after free agency they would be able to offer Butcher an extension.

3+ years under contract or team control. Can be guys on ELC or bridge deals. Doesn't have to be guys with 3+ years on current deal.

Realistic targets would probably be Pettersson, Dunn, Kylington, Dermott, or Bean then, for varying prices of course.

It might make sense for CBJ if they continue to suck. Two top 10 draft picks , get one of Johnson/berniers and Carson lambos with the other pick. Zacha/roslovic battle for 2C spot.

I think the Devils are better off drafting a LHD rather than trading for one. However, if that LHD takes a long time to develop (2-3 years), Im fine with getting Dunn, Pettersson or Bean at the right price

I think our first ends up being around 4-5 when this is all done.
They will sell off the UFAs (vet presence) and the kids will play alot and be allowed to make mistakes. A few callups like Bahl, Jacobs etc. Probl3m with that is Blackwood is pummeled. Gotta be the right mix not to lose him mentally.
I think you move what ya can, maybe take on some contracts with picks, flip them qtu wise for moving up. We are not contending next yr (thought maybe we would) so taking on a Loui Ericsson for a first added might be worth it. Fitz gotta thread a needle with some fine thread!

Fleury could be an option so Carolina doesn't lose him for nothing in the expansion trade. We could get him for cheap I think too. The left side scares me more. Severson, Subban, Walsh all on the right seems fine. Smith, Murray (who is playing bad), Butcher (who I don't see on the team after this year)

Bahl would be a perfect pair with Subban. I completely forgot but we also have Mukamadulin in the pipeline on the left side. He has the potential to be a top 4 defenseman but he is likely far from making it into the NHL
