trade targets

Created by: bob123
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 8, 2021
Published: Mar. 8, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think our needs are:
-either top 6 gritty winger or 3rd line defensive center
-starting goalie
-maybe a depth defenseman
Trades
1.
TOR
  1. Foligno, Nick
  2. Jenner, Boone
Additional Details:
Either one can play the role of a 3rd line center alongside Mikheyev and Hyman and give us a strong defensive/checking line. Getting either one will also provide more offensive upside.
CBJ
2.
TOR
  1. Brown, Dustin
Additional Details:
Perfect fit imo, he'll play with Tavares and Nylander. Allows Kerfoot to center the third line.
LAK
3.
TOR
  1. Kuemper, Darcy
Additional Details:
There's not many goalie upgrades available. Maybe Keumper is not available either but if Arizona is looking for picks in return for cap relief I think he's the only goalie we can get that would be an upgrade over Freddy.
ARI
4.
TOR
  1. Ekholm, Mattias
Additional Details:
This is just me getting greedy. The top 4 looks good but the blueline is an area where you can always add depth.
NSH
5.
TOR
  1. Savard, David
Additional Details:
Same case as Ekholm, we might not be the best fit but I hope we atleast consider the idea of adding someone like David Savard

I really like the Jenner target. Versatile forward who can play just about anywhere in the lineup. Grit. Good leader. Good contract to expose for draft if needed. Just what would it take to get him? I'm not sure at this point.

Browns contract makes it a no go and savard would be on the 3rd pair

Staal is trade target if Dubas wants to leave Kerfoot on the wing and get a better 3rd line centre rather then playing engvall or Spezza there. Also I see Kuemper as a trade target but in the offseason.

Beat me to it. Brown having a nice season but at almost 6 million for 2 more years that’s a big no.

He’d be a nice pick up. Still has 2 years on contract at an affordable amount. I doubt he’s available

Oh then I wouldn't target him I thought he was in the last year of his deal.

Yeah I just realized Brown has 1 more year after this one. I thought he was a rental which is why I thought with retention it would be possible. Yeah with another year we can't afford a 6 mil player.
Yeah Savard would be a third pair guy for us at this point. I included him because he's a player I like, he's really good defensively and is physical.

How is Eric Staal defensively. I think having a third line of Mikheyev-Defensive center-Hyman would allow us a chance to match against other teams top lines to shut them down.
Keumper is someone I would've targeted in the previous offseason and if we can't get him at the deadline I would circle back in the offseason for sure. I've been a big Freddy Andersen fan but with his play both this year and last year, along with his age and contract situation have me concerned. With the way we're playing rn, a goalie upgrade during the deadline would be ideal. But I think your right and it might be something that we have to wait to address during the offseason.

Savard's been not good defensivly this year at all, and a drag on his partner. I'd rather stick with Bogo unless savard is stupid cheap

Simmonds is the top 6 gritty forward we are looking to trade for imo.. doesn't feel like we need to add that when he is back. Only thing I agree with is an other depth Defensemen.

the Leafs have gritty forwards? And if grit is so important why would Columbus be selling gritty players?
Troube with these trades, even with retention, the Leafs would have to give back players in a trade. So who gets subtracted just to make an addition, that actually makes the Leafs better?

Ive seen rumor videos and article saying Staal is someone the leafs should target and I think the Leafs should make a trade for kuemper at the draft.

Jenner you would have to overpay to pry away from us because we are already losing a bunch of grit with Anderson gone, Savard and Foligno heading to FA or deadline trade. Jenner is a key leader and probably next team captain of CBJ. His value on paper is less than his actual value to CBJ. Just letting you know that Jenner will not be as low of a “budget pickup” as you might think

Yeah I understand his value is high. I have him listed because I think he would be a great fit if we can add him. I think it's a little unrealistic because I don't think Columbus is shopping him. But he's a player who can play top 6 or run 3rd line center. Great defensively, plays with some physicality. I think he's exactly the kind of player any playoff team would want.
