Something along Forsberg for Nylander might be doable, as the Preds would get two more years of control though I think the Leafs add.
But what is this fascination with the very meh Granlund?

Any variation of a Forsberg-Nylander trade doesn't make sense for me. If NSH actually trades Forsberg, that means they're going for a full-on, burn it all down, rebuild - not a retooling. That's a 3-5 year plan (if things go well). Nylander's age and contract don't make sense in that scenario. He'll be a UFA before the team is ready to be competitive again.

Add in that Kerfoot doesn't do much for NSH in either a rebuild or trying to remain competitive scenario, and it's an easy pass from the Preds.

I don't think it makes sense for either team. Nylander's younger, signed for more term, will probably be cheaper once Forsberg gets re-signed, and was on pace for 70+ points last season (and looks even better this season).

We'd be trading a perennial 60-70 point player signed for 3 more seasons for one playoff run with Grandlund and one full season of Forsberg, and trading away our first to do so. I think the leafs are better off with Nylander long-term rather than two rentals.

I agree with you in many ways, the only thing that might persuade me to take Forsburg is that for next 1.5 years, he is better than Nylander...sorta in the Leafs window. And when Forsburg leaves as a UFA, the Leafs have cap space.
But so many of these Preds to the Leafs are kinda ridiculous. Forsberg is really the only guy I would be interested, but then equal cap has to go back unless there is retention.

Can you please explain? It's an overpay by the leafs in my opinion.

Forsberg > Nylander and that 1st will likely be very low

Forsberg>Nylander in terms of who's better, but Nylander is younger and has more term so he's worth more. But I do agree a Forsberg Nylander swap just doesn't really fit the preds.
