Leafs Post Vegas

Created by: jmac490
Team: 2016-17 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 2, 2017
Published: Jan. 2, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Nazem Kadri has underperformed with the Leafs for years. He is an overrated forward and I think Vega should have a crack at him. Nylander has also underperformed as a rookie with the Leafs albeit flashes of brilliance at times. Leafs need another semi decent defender to add to their ranks

Thanks for the invite Flamed. Lucky I haven't had my breakfast yet, other wise something might be "coming up." Even someone trolling, usually a some touch of reality to make you wonder, if the writer is serious.

On a more real note. Wasn't that a great outdoor game yesterday? I'm not usually a fan of the such games, but the ice and weather was great. And nine goals. Very entertaining.

I really enjoy watching the leafs. I just thunk Kadri is getting payed way too much and that with the prospects coming up could use the cap space. Kadri has gone from 1st line center to 3rd line shutdown center. Matthews will fill that shut down role in the next year or two

The watched the first 35 minutes of the outdoor game and it was rather slow. Wish I had continued to watch past that point as all the other goals were scored roughly there after and the game got more exciting. You have to say that Kadri getting paid 5M a season to score 30 points and be a shutdown guy is a ltitle much. I probably need to reevaluate the Fowler trade but Kadri going to Vegas saves the Leafs a bad contract as Matthews is slowly filling the role of shutdown forward while also being able to score on a more regular basis

OK, I'll play along. Who are all these prospect that are coming up that play centre? And if they are prospects, they are likely ELC which doesn't affect the cap space at all. Although I am not a fan of fan of rating players #1, 2, 3, by positions, the Leafs are certainly one team that tends to have balanced lines...Matthews plays more on the PP but his line might not be the # 1 line. # 3 line shutdown centre, no real such a thing on the Leafs.
And you wrote "Matthews will fill that shut down role in the next year or two." Yep I'm sure of that, with Matthews the leading scoring on the Leafs playing two rookies, is going to play less PP time.

The Fowler trade is even worse: One full year of Fowler for future #2 RWer or centre (though I had the numbering system, a likely Leaf Dman next year and pick. April 1st is still three months away, but I enjoyed the chuckle.

So when does a 4.5 and on pace for round 50 points a bad contract? Kadri is a solid versatile center with a solid contract for what he brings to the team. Matthews becoming "the" Shutdown C is not how this team will be built. The plan is having 3 versatile lines with a Gauthier type center playing the junk minute Shutdown role. So though Matthews will play a more versatile role in the future we will need a Kadri and probably Nylander playing a similar role....look at babcocks olympic teams who does he play more the 200 foot players or the Offensive players. So no Kadri will not be gift wrapped to Vagas if they want him they will have to pay up.

Kads consistently shuts down other teams best players/line and chips in while doing it.

    He is a keeper, 100p.

Nylander is a rookie, give him a break. We just built our forward core and it looks good. DO NOT dismantle it.

Add to the blue line and we are good.
