1 3rd round pick for Donato seems more than fair. I’d sooner give up Montréal’s at that. He isn’t really a top 6 forward either, and does not bring any physicality, which is what Buffalo really needs.

Wow. You've got the Caps giving SJ a mid-round pick for each point Noah Gregor scored this year.

I mean I thought when we got Donato for a 3rd it was a steal and he's played really well so far. He's only 24 so he could grow into a top 6 forward.

The Tampa trade is the same on other Tampa threads. I've done these trades on other threads and everyone seems to think it was fine.

Donato was traded for a 3rd and he's been really good this season. he's only 24.
Gregor's still really young and has been averaging a point per game in the AHL so definitely worth a few mid-round picks.

that's like saying Byfield isn't worth a 7th cause he's never got an NHL point.

WSH doesn't have any forward spaces, and they only get seven picks a year. Noah Gregor is developing better than you'd expect for a 5th round pick and absolutely will make the NHL full-time with the San Jose Sharks. The above is almost as much as Burakovsky or Dillon got traded for in recent Caps memory. Gregor has three points in 15 NHL games this year and the Caps are trying to win the Stanley Cup while they have Ovechkin, more than they're trying to identify depth guys with middle six upside.

Caps say no. We have our own RFA problems too worry about, adding another doesn't make sense.

If everyone else jumps off a cliff are you going to follow?

Everyone declines. Gambrell should be protected over Simek. Simek is replaceable and Gams is a homegrown player finally coming into his own this year.

Washington is old though and they need youth. Gregor would play on the 3rd line over a guy like Hathaway.

Yeah but Simek is a defenseman and there's a limit for forward and defenseman

I think the Caps could give Panik for Gregor. Could sweeten with a 5th if necessary. Don't think they're giving three picks for a guy who doesn't play a top six forward spot or a top four defense role right away.

Hathaway.... has played fourth line/healthy scratch this year, but I agree with you that he could easily play third line.

yeah Panik wouldn't make sense. We have too many bottom 6 guys.
