I’m not a fan of the Bertuzzi trade for either side really. Bertuzzi doesn’t push the Vancouver team we’ve seen this year over the top, plus injury concerns now. Detroit doesn’t see enough value in the return either with that first being top ten protected, at least from my point of view believing that Bert is a solid guy in that room and on the ice when healthy.

So that bertuzzi trade, lets just call a spade a spade and say its just for a first. Those two prospects are nothing. If it has any chance of going through that pick can’t be protected.

Mantha was a solid guy in the room and even better on the ice and he was dealt... Bertuzzi is a year older. Vancouver likely isn't going to be a bottom ten team next year anyways so the protection is extra insurance. Adding another top six forward for this Canucks team will do wonders.

I can tell you aren't a Canucks fan or know anything about our team when you call those two prospects nothing. Most Canuck fans will hate me for suggesting we trade Lockwood who has all the tools to become a middle six energizer bunny and Karlsson is currently a point per game in the Allsvenskan which is the highest for a U21 player. Do your research next time

Oh heavens to Betsy. He’s turning 23 pretty soon after a really mediocre NCAA career. He isn’t exactly ripping up the AHL either. He’s undersized. Just so very, “meh,” at best. Karlsson is playing in Sweden’s tier 2 league. Couldn’t be less impressed.

Good to know. I thought hard on including DiPietro but a 1st plus him is a steep price. Not saying I personally wouldn't do it but it is a lot.

I'm a Canucks fan and Karlsson and Lockwood are basically nothing prospects. Sure they both have a chance at cracking the NHL but most likely as 4th liners if they make it at all. You never really know and there's always guys that surprise and become effective NHLers but every team in the league have prospects like those 2 and most of them won't turn into much of anything at the NHL level.

Yeah Mantha was and is a great player but look at the return he got... twice this at least. Also Mantha was a bit lazy at times and I’m sure is great on a good team (heck I never wanted to deal him with the firm belief that he can really dominate the playoffs), but on a poor and building team he doesn’t always bring it like you want your young guys to learn from, Bert does. I think the return would have to be like top 5 protected and a better prospect like Dipietro was mentioned. What it adds for Vancouver, maybe I am more concerned with potentially lingering injury issues for Bertuzzi and I’m not comvinced he’ll play a full season next year

I'm not seeing the benefit for the Jackets in that Robinson trade, frankly.

For Detroit, if you look at their prospect cupboard they need quality not quantity. A middle six energy guy, great we have multiple of those already and could easily pick another with the 22 picks over the next 2 drafts. With Karlsson the concern is that he is playing in the Allsvenskan, so again isn't projecting to be a piece that Detroit needs as such. So in essence the trade is for the 1st, and I wouldn't do that for Bertuzzi honestly. The value could be fine, but the fit is not.

They get a guy a year younger and another pick. For a rebuilding team, Robinson is likely expendable

A year younger with less than a third of the NHL experience or production and a late pick. Yes, Robinson is potentially expendable, but if we're going to move him it ought to at least get us something halfway decent rather than a downgrade and a used lottery ticket.
