Benson, Kahun, and Kassian are all superior options to Koskinen for Seattle. Khaira's a maybe if they want him as a long-term PK option, and Archibald fits if he goes unprotected, but it's definitely not Koskinen.
You've done the math yourself, Koskinen isn't a detriment to this roster if he has the support to back him up. The money works if Holland is brave enough to walk away from Smith and bury Russell in favour of Lagesson being waved.
I have a feeling Holland will opt to give Holloway a full year in the AHL before brining him up to the NHL. His philosophy has always been to use the time if he has it, and the handling of Bouchard suggests he's not in a rush to get Holloway into the NHL. McLeod I suspect was a necessity he'd have preferred to have avoided, but couldn't get a deal done on a center during the deadline. The bottom six needed something, and desperately; I think his hand was forced in that regard.
I don't hate the idea of burying Neal if he's still healthy to pull a couple years off of his buyout. Hopefully he passes on some tips and tricks to Raphy.
It makes more sense to me to put Hyman with Draisaitl and Yamamoto and Crouse with McDavid: McDavid being the primary puck carrier on that line is going to limit how often Hyman gets to use his very effective forechecking abilities. We saw an effectiveness in Maroon with McDavid because Big Rig was more than content to park his massive ass in front of the net. I think Crouse can perform this role equally as effectively. Puljujarvi has been decent on the forecheck and as he continues to learn how to use his body, shot, and size effectively at this level, the makings of a "lite" version of yesteryear's Maroon-McDavid-Draisaitl line start to come together. Only this time, there's genuine depth behind that top line.
My thinking regarding Danault is slowly starting to change: unless Buffalo, the Wild, or the Rangers break the bank on him, it's likely he's going to be looking for third-line work. Is an extra half million and an extra year too much of a risk to fully sway him into coming out west?
