Massively extreme returns, even for Eichel and Reinhart.

I get how LA is an attractive option for Eichle but they dont make a whole lot of sense. Thier cap is tied up in Kopitar and Doughty, adding another 10 million dollar contract to a team that will still need Kaliyev, Vilardi AND Turcotte or Byfield on cheap contracts to succeed isnt a smart move. Unless its on a ridiculously good trade but still think they're better off having cheap ELCs and moving forward with Kopitar teaching the youth.

I think the talk surrounding the kings is basically because they are in the Western Conference, and they have a ton of prospects. Beyond that I’m not sure how much sense it makes for them to trade for Jack Eichel anyway. And just because they have the assets does not mean they are even interested. But everyone seems to think they are.

You've hit the nail on the head. People (including many "pundits") are working backwards, asserting that because the Kings have the surplus of young assets that they think will be required to acquire Eichel, therefore Los Angeles must be interested in him and, so the thinking goes, LA is thus one of the frontrunners for him. I don't think, and more importantly I don't think Rob Blake and Kings management think, that Eichel makes much sense when we already have Byfield, Turcotte and Vilardi in the system AND HAVE OBVIOUS NEEDS AT LD AND RW. In fact, Blake has made public statements that his primary interest is on a young first-class LD like Mikhail Sergachev or Zach Werenski (not that he's specifically mentioned them by name -- that would be tampering -- or that they're at all available).

sometimes i wonder if the two teams considered the "frontrunners" for Eichel are actually better off trading between themselves and leaving Buffalo in the wind.
LA is deep in C prospects while the Rangers are deep in W and D prospects. In theory, LA and NY can help each other here...

That could be quite funny. If the “top two markets for Eichel” are off the table there could be nowhere for him to go. Then he would have no choice but to stay, which would actually be best for Buffalo anyway. But I guess that would make Minnesota the front runner if that were true.
