This is an awful trade for COL. VAN fans saying no are crazy. Horvat is a career 0.62ppg guy that is a very nice 2C option. Kadri is older but produces at the same rate. Compher is regardless of what the “pundits” on here say is an able and good bottom 6 versatile forward who plays all forward positions and special teams. The real gem of the trade is Barron, who would have gone top 10 in his draft of not for the clot issue which was fixed, and in his first short stint in the AHL averaged a ppg. He has size, hockey iq and can skate. This should be a hard no from COL.

If Benning were remotely smart and this was offered he would take it. Take your feelings for Kadri and his suspension out of it. Kadri produces offense at literally the exact rate as Horvat. They pick up a good bottom 6 piece and a stud d prospect.

Yea well this isn't true. 1) you can't just take his image and history out of it, thats part of it. 2) Kadri is about to be on the wrong side of 30 and Bo still has his 26 y/o season to play. 3) Bo does a lot more than Kadri (Kadri can't replace what Bo does for VAN). 4) "produces offense at literally the exact rate"... based on what metric? Over their careers (if so, thats not how you compare players)? This is just untrue if you look at recent years which are more accurate indicators of what is to come than their production from 5 years ago (when Bo was 21). Kadri has been trending down for 3 seasons and Bo has continually been trending up (they're going in 2 different directions)... This is not even close to a fair trade.

Horvat points and Corsi last 5 yrs
52, 44, 61, 53, 49 / 48.2, 49.2, 49.8, 49.7, 48

Kadri
61, 55, 44, 36, 32 / 51.5, 49.1, 54.0, 51.1, 57.2

How is Kadri trending down in 2 shortened years, and his metrics crush Horvat. Does Horvat have more value than Kadri yes. Is the proposed package a massive over pay yes. I get we all love our teams players but let’s not call a spade a spade. A trade where VAN gets a close to albeit older 2C, a versatile 3C, and a top pairing D prospect is a massive haul.

Yikes, you're still going eh? Yes, let's compare a guy's prime years playing on good teams vs a guy building up to his prime on bottom 5 teams. Those factors will surely have no impact on the stats provided... this is a tough look

Seriously you don’t get it. What part of comprehension don’t you get? The trade proposed isn’t Kadri for Horvat, which VAN would be right to say no to, if not solely based on age. But you acting like Horvat is light years better than Kadri is ridiculous. I like how I provide numbers and facts and you throw out the good old ‘but he plays on a better team’. Get real.

Been toying with a similar idea myself. Horvat is probably close to an ideal #2C for the Avs (bar his contract ending the same time as MacKinnon, that's about all really). Solid offer for the Canucks but I think it's more how Compher and Kadri are viewed by a majority of fans (and some pundits) and Barron being an unknown commodity at the NHL level. If Horvat comes in then realistically you move Newhook out as well so logic might be to send Newhook to VAN in the trade rather than Barron, and possibly send Kadri elsewhere. A 1-2-3 of MacKinnon-Horvat-Jost doesn't look bad to me and Kadri AND Newhook both suddenly become potentially expendable. Petterson-Newhook also looks rather nice for the 'nucks if they're thinking about a semi-rebuild.

Lets try it this way because I cannot possibly make it any simpler for you to understand. Lets say, for example, Connor McDavid's trade value is a 10/10. If we use your logic, then a fair trade would mean Connor McDavid in exchange for ten 1/10 value pieces. However, in the real world that is not how trades work. You don't trade a guy who has a lot of value if you aren't getting at least 1 piece with "a lot" of value back. You can't just say "well this guy was good a few years ago, is getting older, has a bad reputation, isn't as good now and is statistically trending downwards plus a couple lower valued pieces equals your currently high valued piece." So, once again, all I am saying is that the trade listed above, as is, is not a fair trade for Vancouver. Therefore, "VAN says no, quickly."

Go ahead ignore Corsi, ignore xGF but you go ahead and tell me what my logic is. What a duck.

Interesting discussion, thanks to all who have commented in this thread, it's insightful to see viewpoints being so divided.

Out of curiosity how would Vancouver fans perpective on this trade change if it was Timmins included instead of Barron?
