Description
This still isn't a finished product but it's a start. Still think another top 6 forward is needed, the defense needs to be shored up and maybe UPL stays in the AHL and a backup goalie is needed. We have draft capital plus free agency to use to fill in the holes if need be but it would be wise to also start to replenish the prospect pool. I was more interested in what the thoughts are on the trade returns for Reinhart and Eichel

I’d make that deal with Buffalo. Better than losing Allen to Seattle

You can have Vilardi plus, or you can have the eighth overall pick, but you can't have both. Reinhart is a free agent in two years max.

Vilardi isn’t that special anyway. He’s a Casey Mittelstadt, Buffalo already has one of those.

Instead of only losing Allen, now we are losing Allen & Fleury/or/Evans for a 3rd ? Rather just lose Allen

But Habs need to Expose a goalie with enough NHL experience
So they would need to sign a UFA goalie (or trade for one) before trading Allen

It’s a cost ratio game, if Vilardi is a 15-20 goal scorer at a minimum contract, the Kings could just get a free agent to offset the scoring Reinhart provides and keep their first. So I don’t think you’ll get a great prospect and a top ten pick.

I understand that idea, but I disagree with anyone’s assertion that Reinhart is not producing like a player who was picked second overall. He is potentially a point per game player, probably good for at least 60 points a season when healthy. You have to pay a price equivalent to what that is. Buffalo would probably prefer a prospect who’s closer to ready to play in the NHL than another pick they have to wait three years for.

I’ve heard kings fans on this website talk about Vilardi like he’s just as important to their franchise as Quinton Byfield. There’s a clear delineation between the two, just like there is between Reinhard and Eichel. Vilardi isn’t on the level with Reinhart yet at least, he’s on the Casey Mittelstadt projection.

I think it’s too early to say we’ve seen Vilardi’s ceiling personally speaking, he spent nearly two years injured after drafting him. I don’t think your cost is off, but the Kings still need to address a few areas to improve. If Kings need goal scoring and defense I’m not sure why they would be willing to give up this years draft pick and a player who they have waited on whose finally paying dividends as a 2C

We're not still talking about whether Buffalo gets Vilardi PLUS the eighth overall draft pick, are we? I thought that was settled. Vilardi or Mittelstadt plus the first is more than Reinhart is worth. It's Vilardi plus a little something or the first straight up.

My point is that Buffalo doesn’t need Vilardi since Casey Mittelstadt already inhabits his line. I would sooner focus on Kaliyev as a piece I would want back. Particularly if they draft Beniers a center may not be something they need immediately.

Yeah Kings hang up, the whole reason the Kings should be interested in Sabres players is to buy the dip on players who are frustrated and want out, especially during a time with a frozen cap. If there isn’t a deal where they can buy these players at a discount, they should stick with what they have. The balance of Turcotte, Vilardi, and Byfield means it’s likely have two of their future top 6 centers, no way we move on from any of them until the team has seen enough of all of them. Kaliyev is the Kings best winger, he isn’t being moved.

Kaliyev and our 2022 second would be a reasonable price for Reinhart. We wouldn't want to pay more due to Reinhart's contract status.

It would have to be Kaliyev and a first round pick or it wouldn’t even be worth thinking about. Vancouver will pay a higher price than you’re offering.

We're happy to pass on that proposal. I can't wait to see if the guy we get at #8 is the next William Nylander, or the next Alex Nylander.
