Flames decline, we don’t want the $3 mil increase. Plus Marner shouldn’t be traded, the Leafs would be smart to keep him

Like any fan of any team, I’d love tkachuk on the leafs, but I don’t think Calgary want marner over him. Marner doesn’t play sutter’s style and won’t do well there. We should just keep him too tbh. When you have a talent like him who can’t get it together mentally clearly in the playoffs, you try and work it out rather than make a huge transaction that you likely won’t win.

I really wish Toronto would just make the 2nd round already so we dont have to see 25 Marner for Tkachuk posts every day of the offseason. Flames aren't moving Tkachuk for another Gaudreau

So you get Tkachuk who has been with the Flames for 5 years. Missed the playoffs twice, Only won a preliminary round in the expanded playoffs last season. So what's the magic of Tkachuk and his playoff mentality over Marner? While Tkachuk is a good player, he gets a notoriety for his shenanigans rather than overall play.

Marner will figure out playoff hockey eventually, the issue is they need that to happen before Matthews contract ends and bringing in guys that can teach it requires cap space they don't really have. I guess they could look for a coach that can do it though

While that's all true, he is also our next captain. On his next big contract he'll make less than Marner, he plays all facets of the games not just regular season point totals. He can play on a shutdown line, as well as the net front presence on the powerplay that Marner outright refuses to do or try. On top of all of that he's a locker room guy, you can't trade away a guy like him for anything less than Eichel, I dont care how many points Marner scores in the regular season it makes no difference when he's an outright no show in the playoffs, and the Flames already have a guy exactly like that in Johnny Gaudreau.

The notoriety for his shenanigans only overshadows his overall play because he has that kind of reputation, you'll remember a bad hit he made over a 6 game pt streak he had for example, but we as Flames fans can look past all that and see how special and rare a player he is. So no it isn't happening in this or any other lifetime, Flames have no interest in Mitch Marner.

Sorry, you don't know "if he's a locker room guy". You may have a point about Marner good regular season production versus his poor post season production, but geez look at the facts....Tkachuk has led the Flames to much success?
As for being the next captain. He has 21/22 at 7m contract. Then he just one year away from being a UFA. Apparently his qualifying offer is 9m, if he doesn't resign. But if the Flames finish out of the playoffs again, do you really think Tkachuk will want to remain in Calgary long term?

Yup which is why this makes sense for the Leafs but no interest...you mean in this deal right? Cause Marner is easily better then the rest of Flames forwards.

Also Eichel on the Flames would be good but you should be aiming to add Eichel to Tkachuk, not for Tkachuk.

Actually I have the same amount of evidence for him being a locker room guy as Marner being locker room cancer. We aren't in there and we dont know what goes down all we can do is speculate, and based on how he talks to the media and how competitive he is, I have more than enough reason to believe hes a locker room guy.

This whole narrative that he won't re-sign in Calgary is such a bad faith argument, Brad Treliving isnt letting him walk and he wont pull a PLD like on us. When was the last time a young forward as valuable as Tkachuk abandoned his team and went into free agency. Its the same thing as me saying that Matthews is going to leave at the end of his contract, thats not a good point to justify this or any other Marner for Tkachuk trade.

I really dont know if you can say hes easily better than anyone rn, he has 0 goals in 17 playoff games. As we learned from this year and previous years regular season point totals mean absolutely nothing. You didnt pay him 11 mil to be top 5 scoring, you paid him to win in the playoffs.

You're right but if im the Sabres the trade discussions begin and end with Tkachuk

It isn't a bad faith argument. It isn't necessarily Brad Treiliving decision on whether Tkachuk's Leafs as a UFA. You're right not too many players leave as soon a contractually possible, the main reason is they still haven't been paid big money as RFASs. McDavid, Eichel and Matthews have set the tone, as with some other RFAs...who now are getting UFA money in their first RFA contract. Matthews, it's an easy prediction to say he will be leaving the Leafs as UFA. I don't know why anyone would think Matthews isn't going to explore his options and either get big money or better opportunities elsewhere. I predict he goes to big USA market.
Fans are FANtical. When a UFA signs with THEIR after they leaving another team, the fans are so happy....That player loves our team, city and the fans. But when a UFA leaves his team, the fans think the player is a traitor.
Let's have this discussion in two years. Still my prediction is , that Tkachuk is not going to sign long term in Calgary. Only question is whether the Flames trade him for assets or he truly walks as UFA from the Flames.
Let's see what Reinhart of the Sabres does. He can be a UFA in the summer of 2022. Three options, Sabres trade him for assets, Sabres sign him long term, Reinhart signs a qualifying offer which will make him a UFA next summer. For Reinhart 7 years a Sabres is the most he will do. I feel the same way about Tkachuk. Especially if the Flames aren't successful, no way he stays a Flame most than his minimum of seven years.
