Quoting: DopeGM
I could definitely see NYR overpay to accelerate a contention window and all they really need is a second 1C.
Hard to find the right one. Three years looks like the ideal length contract. Maybe do the deal if Malkin signs on for a couple more years.
I don’t pay attention to the Rangers but this is an enormous summer. I don’t think they win the Eichel sweeps. And I think they should overpay to gain depth at C. Such a great two year window with so many key players on cheap deals.
Who else is a strong two year bet out there?
I think this is the thought process that happens when you over hype players.
Pray to god your GM isn't Dubas, handing out 11 mil contracts to guys who should never get them.
Kappo, Lafrenière, Miller....none of these guys have played their way into a big contract. You act like this is some closing window because the youth is all gonna get paid...
None of them have earned any kind of pay raise that's closing a window on this team to this point. Not even close.
So to toss out all kinds of futures and assets to bring in a rental C, with this false belief that if they don't get it done in 2 years the window will be closed...presumably due to cap, is just nonsense.
Try the players actually playing well first before they get paid. Least you end up where NJ is right now, with a fan base on here who thinks Jack Hughes is some Olympian worthy all star, yet the numbers say 4 mil per. Want to see a window close fast, Pay a guy who's a 20 goal scorer and racks up a bunch of assists almost 11 mil per and then complain how the team can't win.
Because that's the only thing that's closing the window for NYR at this point. Slow and steady as they go. No need to rush.
