Contender in two years

Created by: Mattkenn
Team: 2022-23 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 10, 2021
Published: Jun. 10, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Step one:

Get Seth Jones Using quantity over quality. With the Karlsson Trade as reference. 9 assets for 1 trade is never seen before. CBJ are looking to rebuild this is the kind of trade they must be looking for. 2 active servicable players + 2 A minus finnish prospects + 2 B prospects + 3 picks including the 10th overall. One hell of a return.

2. Protect: Tkachuk, Batherson, Brown, Paul, White, Dadonov, Watson, Chabot, Jones, Mete

3. That leaves Seattle with a choice of Zaitsev or Murray. Two contracts we want to get rid of anyways.

4. Let's say they pick zaitsez and also foote from Tampa. We need a RHD so we pay a little hefty price for foote but banking on his potential. We sign him to 4 x 2.5.

5. During they year, flyers are not off to a good start and look to trade Giroux. Ottawa is an obvious fit. Wanting to do him good, they trade him here with the Pacioretty trade as reference. An overpaid but servicable player + 2nd + A prospect. Extend him to a 4year - 15M contract to finish his career in Ottawa where he can spend more time with wife and kids.

6. Either in the offseason or during the next season upgrade Dadonov to tarasenko, Pay 1st round pick + an unknown prospects.

Without a doubt! What a bargain! Karlsson and doughty for 11... thats a yikes!

Jones is 2nd best overall defenseman in the league. Change my mind.

You've already failed. We already have quantity in depth; quality is the only thing that will make a deal happen.

Please tell me more about the abundance of talent in your prospect pool.

You guys are heading towards a rebuild...Don't go after a big name. Shed salary and Find a trade that will give you value 5 years down the road. Like the karlsson trade.

What you're suggesting is futures rather than roster players; that doesn't change the equation. We need blue-chip futures in a Jones trade. We can get depth futures via other means - such as, say, the three 1sts we have this year. So, quality, not quantity.

some interesting takes , Eugene won't like you throwing his $ around like that.
You are heavy on term for a few players ( Batherson , Paul ) .
Not giving up a 1st for Tarasenko.
If they were able to land Giroux, a big IF, it is going to cost more that what you projected to re-sign
Brannstrom and Norris are not due new deals for another year why bring them up now ?
I would bet Jones would not re-sign in Ottawa he is USA bound
Stastny one year only but thinking he does not fit in
      Steen ??
I like Comeau but he is getting close and may have passed his 'best before'

Giroux has no intentions of leaving Philly. Even if he did, he wouldn't go to Ottawa because he has said that he wants to win.

Honestly, as a Blues fan I'd be inclined to take that deal. Might offer a a pick to go to Ottawa in exchange for not retaining any salary, but otherwise I like the return.

In this scenario, Tarasenko (5M), Brown (3.6M), Stastny ( 2.5M) Watson are off the books for about 11m in caproom to resign JBD, Stutzle and Pinto.... May be enough to sign them to bridges ... But let's say we want to keep brown also, the most probable option is to buyout Murray as he has a pretty team friendly buyout structure.

there would *maybe* be cap space to resign them if those free agents walk, but then we would need to replace those players too which would be hard as we've gutted our draft picks and prospects in this scenario

Bro, Dadonov is sinking faster than Vova and that pick is two years away. No dice.

He was playing for a dreadful Ottawa team so I'm willing to give him a pass especially since he has the same amount of contract length and less money. Plus that 2023 Ottawa pick could potentially be top 10 again with Bedard. Blues won't get that offer (and probably wouldn't in real life either) from anyone else.

Four guys 22 or younger outscored him, there's only so much this excuse can cover. He was already regressing hard with Florida anyway. And I kinda doubt Ottawa will be a lottery team in two years. They have a **** ton of developing young talent, basically half the roster with more on the way.

It's Ottawa though, just because they have amazing young talent doesn't mean they'll be successful. They could be just as bad as Buffalo.

Highly doubt it. Ottawa has had much more successful runs than Buffalo. And that talent stockpile is legit.
