Carolina Shakeup

Created by: OnlyBadDeals
Team: 2021-22 Carolina Hurricanes
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 10, 2021
Published: Jun. 10, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Not very realistic, but close to my ideal offseason, minus losing Necas, but it's for the cause. A team with Eichel on their second line is much scarier than a team with Necas on the second line. I probably lowballed the UFAs, but it wouldn't be an ACGM without lowballs. Next year's Cap shouldn't be too bad only 9 million to resign 3 players, but Nino would probably get less AAV and the other two are 4 liners.

Free Agent Signings:

Corey Perry: He will probably suck in the regular season, but he seems to turn it on in the playoff and could be a quality leader for the team.

Alec Marteniz: Only if Skjei is the pick for Seattle. I think Marteniz would be a perfect replacement for Skjei because I feel they play a similar game. He might want more in UFA though because it will be his last chance at a big payday.

Brian Elliott: Can be any cheap(2 million or less) backup. It's scary to put this much faith into Nedeljkovic, but I think we are at the point where if Ned sucks we will suck.

Brandon Montour: Replacing Dougie is not going to happen. I would rather bolster the rest of the roster instead of spending big money on his replacement. Montour might get more in UFA, I don't know his UFA worth.

Trades
1.
CAR
SEA
  1. Skjei, Brady
Additional Details:
Protection:
Aho, Teravainen, Svech, Staal, Nino, Trocheck, Fast/Geekie(doesn't really matter)
Slavin, Pesce, Bean
Ned
2.
BUF
  1. Gardiner, Jake
  2. Necas, Martin
  3. Suzuki, Ryan
  4. 2022 1st round pick (CAR)
Additional Details:
This is the absolute max I would give. Gardiner doesn't have to be a part of the deal, but the pick/prospect will be less.

Some Canes fans will not like Necas being in the trade, but I don't see a world in which Canes get Eichel without a Necas caliber player going back.
3.
TBL
  1. Lafontaine, Jack [Reserve List]
  2. 2021 2nd round pick (CAR)
Additional Details:
Good Goalie prospect that might not sign with the Canes because of a logjam with our AHL team.

I'm not really sure of Killorn's value. I just know Tampa doesn't want cap back
4.
CAR
SEA
  1. Foegele, Warren
  2. Trocheck, Vincent
Additional Details:
Foegele: Trade away rights if anyone wants him. If no one wants to trade, don't sign the qualifying offer.

Trocheck: I could add to Eichel's deal, but if they don't want him someone will. Decent 2C at 4.75Mx1

Would you trade Aho for Necas, Suzuki, Gardiner, 1st?

Fairly good deal for Eichel. You'll probably get killed for it (probably by both sides) and it might conceivably get outbid, but good effort nonetheless. Sabres should be happy with that return. Maybe throw in a project prospect to make the deal look bigger.

posted earlier think TB would want a 2 and 4 for Killon from a metro division team 2 and the goalie prospect. deal.

Take out the goalie prospect and add either a 4th or a decent forward prospect

This would be my dream offer for Eichel.

Project prospect like Vasili Ponomaryov(C) maybe? Or Patrik Puistola(LW)? Or Domenick Fensore(D)? All are 3rd rounders that still show NHL potential

I guess if it's just to make the deal look bigger it doesn't really matter.

Really? It still seems pretty light for Eichel to me.

Pretty good Eichel offer, seems fair to both sides. Not sure why you're giving Troch/Foegs for nothing though. Could surely package them for another top 9 scoring winger. Also wouldn't bother with Hakanpaa - Most of these that I've seen include re-signing him (half the time for way too much although yours is probably pretty accurate). I'd rather use that money and scrap together whatever else I have to get a better option on 3rd pair.

I agree with both of your points. I just made those moves because I couldn't be bothered to find better fits/trades that would work. I would be fine with just trading Troch and Foegele for futures and using those assets at the trade deadline to shore up any weaknesses. I'd also be fine with no bringing back Hakanpaa. That was another move made out of laziness.

Solid offer for Eichel. Canucks would have interest in either of Foegle or Trochek.

Necas is already a great player. And Carolina has great forward prospects. I really hope they get involved. They would easily beat out other teams.

I saw your Trocheck thread, but what would you give for Foegele?

Foegle I'm thinking this year's 2nd or something around there. We don't really have any enticing prospects or poster players to add

Could we do Larsson or Savard for that Montour number? Not overly interested in Montour. 4 year deal for him would be bad.

Martinez, meh. 5 years, pass. The point of letting Seattle take Skjei would be to find similar production for cheaper. I would say Olesiak if we want a 3-4 year commitment but we are probably looking short term for cap flexibility. I say Marc Staal as the 3LD for cheap or get Goligoski for 2LD at 2-3 million for one year.

Probably go 2 years 2.5-3 for Ned. If we settle for Elliot level backup we would stay with Reimer. Get Bernier if possible.

Drop Perry. Geekie is probably a 900k to 1 million deal. Use all the savings to get a better forward in the mix.

Agree on all those points. Really like oleksiak fit if the price is right. And I think your point on losing Skjei is great. That’s why I’d prefer to protect Bean and lose Skjei to Seattle while finding a way to move Gards. Clear the space and even if Bean doesn’t pan out to the level they thought he would he’ll still be serviceable and cheap and you have options in the short term to get better while remaining flexible long term when you have to give Svech Necas Aho slavin pesce etc their next deals in a few years.
