Kings Summer Keep Building No Major Moves

Description
I don't think the Kings should go out and get a big name just to get a big name. They're putting together something really nice with their prospects and trading them away before they even see NHL time is a little premature in my opinion. While Reinhart would be nice, there's only a certain amount of sense he would make. And I like the option to be able to select either a good D-man or solid winger at #8.

I bring in Debrusk to add someone with top-6 experience. If his performance over the year earns his QO then great, and the Kings have the option to bring him back. If not, then he's there as a bridge player while Turcotte, Kaliyev, and Kupari get their feet wet. The expectation is that 2022-2023 would be those three's first full years in the league. Kupari gets the extra roster spot to begin the year, and Kupari/Turcotte start in Ontario until Quinton goes to World Juniors.

I add Oleksiak to bring a size/physical element to the back end with the ability to eat minutes. He's not the "dynamic" player that Rob has said he wants, but it allows Toby to show the Kings more of what he's going to become. Also, Oleksiak brings a certain amount of veteran experience and leadership to help Drew with a very young D-corp.

I'm not a fan of how few right shot players are on the forward group, but that's something that can't really be addressed with this year's crop of free agents.

$4M for a 3rd pairing defenseman is pretty steep.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if it was excessive, but I expect he won't necessarily be a traditional 3rd pairing defenseman. Probably a PK specialist that gives the Kings an option to play 15-18 minutes a night. Helps take the load off of Drew.

A mid-2nd rounder isn't getting you DeBrusk

I expect he will have heavy interest on the open market this year. Not much in the way of decent LD as UFAs. Might have to overpay to get him. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Wasn't this a guy the Bruins had healthy scratched in the playoffs?

If I'm off, what are the Bruins expecting for him?

I admittedly didn’t do a ton of looking into what an expected contract for Oleksiak would look. I was thinking 4mil was a little bit of overpay.

You are off, but i just don’t think the bruins are going to trade him. He did struggle this year, and they did scratch him at times. That said, do you think NHL GMs are going to rush to judgment on young NHL players with success at the NHL level because of a down season in a pandemic year with no pre-season, and a shortened off season? Ya, me neither.

The bruins are contending, and have cap space. They aren’t offloading players for a 2nd rounder. That doesn’t help them. I also think they’re unlikely to trade him when his value is at an all time low.

Barzal was healthy scratched multiple times last year does that make him worth a 2nd?

I get the point, but let's not go comparing Barzal and Debrusk. Unless you're trying to say Debrusk is a star player, in which case I dont know what to say.

I like this post. Informative from the Bruins perspective. Thank you.

I looked at Debrusk because nearly every ACGM from the Bruins has him leaving the team. So it seems like amongst the vocal Bruins fans, your opinion of him staying was somewhat in the minority. If thats not the case, I'll start looking at other options for the Kings top-6 that I think can fit.

Bruins fans seem to be a ridiculously reactionary bunch. Every time tuukka lets in a goal they’re calling for his head, despite being the best goalie in franchise history.

Same goes for debrusk. I think there’s just a lack of understanding that this was a really weird year, and it’s kind of silly to trade him for the sake of trading him. If there’s a cap crunch, perhaps it could make sense. I just don’t see a good fit anywhere now, unless some GM really wants to gamble on Debrusk, and give the bruins a piece that will improve their team now.

no no lol debrusk ain't a star player but like are you gonna trade a 24 yr old winger who until this year was averaging 48 points per game a season per 82 games? probably not the potential is still there with debrusk, the only way bruins move debrusk is if they are getting an asset that helps them improve now. you won't see bruins offload any player worth decent value just for picks not for atleast another year or 2 once they gotta start retooling

He was a scratch for 1 game in the playoffs when there were 2-3 other guys that needed to sit before him.

Bruins are in win now mode and unless they are filling a hole then I don't see them moving DeBrusk.

Those Bruins ACGM's are usually done by the pink hats that also think Rask is the worst goalie in the NHL. There are honestly maybe 3-4 B's fans that have good insight....they just rarely make ACGM's
