Why would the Pens trade Marino, who is signed long term cheaper, for a player that needs a new contract that is gonna be a higher contract than he already has.

Pens need to shed salary. Not take it on.

The Oilers don't need to trade for guys to fight for 6/7D slots. We have those guys in house already.

I am really tired of seeing Pettersson traded to Buffalo.
So I started watching the Penguins play against the Islanders.
While Marcus is over paid, he would a great addition to the LHD.
Yes Buffalo has Bryson, Samuelsson, (they both looked really solid last year and only Ristolainen had more PK time then Bryson) and possible Power, they are all young.
Buffalo rushed Ristolainen and of course is doing the same with Dahlin.
While a third and fifth are a fair price for Pettersson, I think Buffalo would want to move a decent prospect.
I know he bolted to Europe after one season, but Pilut has great potential and IMO he would come back to NA if he could play for a contender.
So, I could see Buffalo trading for Pettersson and letting their young defensemen develop their skills in the AHL.
