To take on Johansen's contract would require that 1st alone, no way we would be trading a higher pick for him.

sounds like the Rangers are out on Eichel. Too expensive to acquire, too much risk, too much cap space.

That’s not even close to reasonable. Buffalo just handing you a top line forward for a guy who might be your fourth best prospect and draft picks in two years? Yikes.

1st+2nd+3rd is pretty reasonable for a 1 year rental of a 60 point guy

I doubt very much that any team trading for him would have no intention of trying to extend him. Not to mention if you couldn’t get him to sign an extension you could easily recoup all of your assets that you gave up to get him at the trade deadline. So no.

You’re never going to recoup all your assets, especially if he refuses to sign a contract and that’s why he’s getting dealt again, not that a team gunning for the playoffs would deal a good player regardless. He doesn’t have a contract right now, and can force his way to UFA next summer because of arb rights, so he effectively has one year of team control, and that’s what you’re trading for.

What you get back at the trade deadline depends entirely on how good of a season he has, and how badly a playoff bound team wants him. My idea is based on the lackluster offer that you are proposing he is worth, you would get all of that back easily. He’s going to sign somewhere on a long-term deal, whether that’s this year or next off-season.

Originally had it as the 33rd overall pick and girg for johansen and the 19th overall so would that be better?

No because its not worth taking that contract just to move up 14 spots
