I dont see Islanders taking mikko the other way.
they are in need of creating a cap space.

Let me get this straight: You want to trade a bad backup goalie on a terrible contract, a prospect from 5 years ago who could never stick in the NHL, another no name prospect and a 1st round pick for:
a number 1 goaltender who's arguably top 10-15 in the league and was certainly on a few Vezina ballots, a young second line winger and playoff hero with more than 300 NHL games played aged 24 and a 3rd round pick? This might be the worst and most delusional proposal I have ever seen on here.

If you get lucky, you can ship Koskinen and a 1st to a team looking to reach the salary floor and get a 5th round pick in return.

A trade to the Isle involving would involve something like

NYI: Mikko Koskinen (50% Retained), Tyler Benson, 2021 1st

    EDM: Varlamov, 2021 3rd.

    🙄

Folks have to stop blaming prospects for not getting NHL roles in their early 20s it's hard to think of anything more misguided and myopic

Especially when their teams are trying to contend

Especially when the GMs are chiarelli / Holland

Benson has had AHL scoring rates on par with most good 1st round picks for three years now and his age 20 season was especially notable

His NHLe for 3 years has been ~30 that's lovely

He's quite a good prospect and asset

The issue with Benson is and has always been his speed and whether it'll work at an NHL level. I do think he has more value than most online forums assume he has to real world GM's but I also think that it's not as high as listed here.

Thats very nice but do you really think hes worth beauvillier plus moving koskinen? I mean come on. Hes not even close to beauvilliers worth alone.

    Let me re-iterate:

This deal involves a very good NHL starter on a very reasonable deal and a 24 year old with more than 300 NHL games and 30 points in 50 playoff games on the one hand.

On the other hand, we have a bad backup on a bad deal and a 23 year old with 1 NHL game and good numbers in the minors.

To make up for this ridiculous difference in value you swap a 1st for a 3rd round pick and throw in a player nobody ever considered a prospect. Got it.
