Nurse actually outperforms when paired with Bear as opposed to Barrie or any other defender that the Oilers iced this past season. If Bear were given time on the powerplay he'd also have offensive numbers I can imagine. Fancy stats favor Bear infinitely more than Barrie as does the eye test. Barrie stacks secondary assists and PP points.

Holland Wheelin and Dealin
I don't understand why Smith is being signed to a 3 year deal. That would take him to 42 which is kind of nutty. That 100% isn't enough for OEL, it'd take at least a 1st in addition with retained salary.

Oilers - Hall Hamilton Wennberg
Dougie will most definitely get 8x7 from somewhere so that's a requirement but I think Hall gets nowhere near 7.5, I think wherever he ends up it'll be long term @ 6-6.5 if the team looks like it could compete.

I could definitely work with that, I just assume the retention + Kassian works as I never stop hearing that "NYR and Pittsburgh are trying to get bigger, Kassian is a possibility"

"My biggest question mark is the NYR trade, I don't know if it's realistic. Would appreciate feedback on Georgy's value."
I've seen trades on here from people as NYR trading Georgiev for pennies and assuming that NYR are looking to get tougher they hold Kassian to some level of value.
What's your cost of acquirement for Georgiev or do Oilers look elsewhere?

Perhaps
Reimer and Raanta both get bigger pay days more than likely, also signing Hamilton @ 8x7 to play 2nd pairing is ridiculous.
I also would rather just do a 1st + Neal to Seattle with no retention. Dmitri has a lot of promise in pushing into our lineup in the next year or two and at pick 19 I don't think we have anyone that makes an immediate impact available or at least in the next couple of years.

I think our first target from the lightning should be Killorn but Palat is a viable 2nd option and neither should be overly expensive which is nice.
I think the Larsson deal is nearly spot on give or take ~100K
I think Ullmark dollars are spot on but he'll get 4-6 years term.
Everything else looks pretty spot on in terms of what good deals would look like but I think Nuge is still looking at 6-6.5x6~

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Radu47</b></div><div>🙄
Folks have to stop blaming prospects for not getting NHL roles in their early 20s it's hard to think of anything more misguided and myopic
Especially when their teams are trying to contend
Especially when the GMs are chiarelli / Holland
Benson has had AHL scoring rates on par with most good 1st round picks for three years now and his age 20 season was especially notable
His NHLe for 3 years has been ~30 that's lovely
He's quite a good prospect and asset</div></div>
The issue with Benson is and has always been his speed and whether it'll work at an NHL level. I do think he has more value than most online forums assume he has to real world GM's but I also think that it's not as high as listed here.

I would bet my house turris is burried.
goodrow is a better option</div></div>
More than likely but there's only so many ways to work around things so I'm trying to get some different views in, though I think it's likely if Holland is looking for a cheap 3W option it'll be someone like Darren Helm.

Primarily depends on if Seattle takes Benson or Jones, if they took Benson then Jones would slide into 3LD, if they take Benson I could see Holloway fighting for a spot in camp, if not bury Turris and sign someone like Goodrow.

A trade to the Isle involving would involve something like
NYI: Mikko Koskinen (50% Retained), Tyler Benson, 2021 1st
EDM: Varlamov, 2021 3rd.

I mean that's your prerogative, I disagree with the value of Holloway. I think he can definitely become a very good player in the NHL, he could also bust. Nylander is established.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Smokingun71</b></div><div>You really think it costs a first and Jones to dump Neal? Might as well just buy him out then. Why would you trade a second pair young RHD, our best forward prospect, a first and a third rounder in a strong draft and then think it’s too low, so why not throw in another B level D prospect on top of that. I would be expecting a way better player then Nylander coming back our way for that package!</div></div>
Seattle Selects Caleb Jones, The 1st is for Seattle to take Neal. I think the value to Nylander is close, I may be a bit over, may be a bit under but seeing what Oilers fans were valuing Rackell at for a single year, I think Nylander is a better player and would be worth more (especially considering he's got another 3 years)

Fill the needs with FA
We're not signing both Barrie and Hamilton, Hamilton wouldn't be on the 2nd pairing. We're not relying on a Bouchard/Broberg bottom pairing. The Avs may depart with one of Landeskog and Grubauer but not both.
Overall our defense gets worse, our offense gets marginally better and Seattle says no the that return in the expansion draft.

Oilers take that and run considering you have Neal + 1st as a breakeven so is Koski + 3rd, so the trade is McLeod and Lavoie for Keller and Keumper

The Right Way
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Quillanrocks</b></div><div>I definitely like the idea of finding a trade for Neal rather than all the buyout talk. Significant "dead money" for the next 4 seasons would be brutal. But if that's the price it takes Holland to have Seattle take that problem (and I'm sure it will be!) then I sure hope he uses that extra cap space to very good use! Otherwise I say the Oilers just gut it out and if they have to, bury him in the minors for a savings for the final 2 years of his contract.</div></div>
There's an alternate reality where you move Neal and sign someone like Hamilton, move Bear for Debrusk (some fine tuning may be needed here) bring in Killorn instead of Schwartz for a 2nd and maybe a low tier prospect. I left a majority of Neals cap (5~M) to adjust for dollars signed, some flexibility at the deadline and such.

I realistically can't see Stalock getting any major return so a 6th/7th from any team would be realistic.
